I'm very happy to announce our new Cohere+Reload: Re-enabling High-Resolution Cache Attacks on AMD SEV-SNP was accepted at DIMVA 2025! In it @NS_Raghav, @lavados and I investigate AMD's ciphertext coherence mechanism, more on bsky.app/profile/giner.…

Got some negative or unrealistic threat model results that still bring interesting insights? A side channel that requires root to leak something from the kernel? Reproducing prior work? Somewhat related to microarchitecture? Here's your venue: uasc.cc

Excited to announce the release of the Rapid Data Analysis (RDA) framework! RDA streamlines side-channel analysis with plotting, processing, and analysis tools—usable directly from the terminal or in scripts. Check it out: github.com/0xhilbert/rda #SideChannel

@spendergrsec @jvanegue @lavados calling something "the dumbest take of all" while misreading/misrepresenting the take seems a bit risky to me 🤷 but it's good to see you acknowledge that likes are the thing that's on your mind when you post these attacks in public, while expecting to be asked in private

This paragraph is false. No clue where they got the idea AUTOSLAB was per-type, not even the referenced blog suggests it. It's per-allocation site. pure.tugraz.at/ws/portalfiles…

@jduck @0xhilbert @ASIACCS2024 WebGPU isn't finalized yet, so I wouldn't expect any to use it as more than a demo. But you can probably compare it to WebGL usage.

@0xhilbert @ASIACCS2024 That's not great. I think a very small percentage of web sites use WebGPU legitimately. Does the paper have numbers on that?

WebGPU allows websites to use your GPU for general-purpose computations without asking for permission in the browser. To understand which attack vectors are possible using this interface, see our @ASIACCS2024 paper and try the PoC in your browser.

Our new paper "Generic and Automated Drive-by GPU Cache Attacks from the Browser" has been accepted at @ASIACCS2024! 🎉 We show basic cache attack primitives on NVIDIA&AMD, and more complex attacks on NVIDIA. You can read it and try a tiny POC here ginerlukas.com/gpuattacks/.

@fiddledbits @ASIACCS2024 For now yes, WebGPU is still a developing standard. We expect it to be enabled by default at some point.

(If you want the demo gods to favor you, try it with an AMD or NVIDIA GPU, on Windows, in Chrome. Other constellations may or may not work.)

@gannimo I got a review that had a complaint that was easy to satisfy with a major revision or probably even minor, but instead it was a reject with no further comments. But thank god there was an interactive rebuttal phase so there was an extra week without comments for me to enjoy. 💩

I'm getting very tired of the "we no longer have major revisions, therefore we will reject your systems paper" response. This is just 💩. To my dear systems reviewers: if you reject all systems papers, we'll not have systems papers at conferences.
