Just seen Disclosure Day, which was fundamentally very silly throughout, but it's interesting that they couldn't advance the format of an "aliens are real" movie beyond the themes and formats that an audience would have been familiar with 30yrs ago

What we’ve actually learned this morning is something the industry doesn’t want to admit. People aren’t buying tickets for @TheOdyssey . They’re buying tickets for The Odyssey in @IMAX . Those are not the same thing. If audiences were equally excited about seeing the film in any format, standard screenings would be disappearing at the same rate. They’re not. What we’re watching is the continued divergence between premium cinema and everything else. Christopher Nolan has spent years teaching audiences that format matters, and now they’re voting with their wallets. The uncomfortable question for studios isn’t why IMAX is selling out. It’s why so many people seem willing to wait rather than watch the same film elsewhere. That’s not a marketing victory. That’s a confidence problem for every screen that isn’t IMAX.
