@NurseWithSign Years of accepting one time payments means we fail to have a real wage increase that can grow over time. Repealing Bill 124 is essential for real change.

@RichardCityNews Does he really think this is going to fly with nurses? My 27 years of experience is worth more than 0.96% raise & trying to appease me with $5000 isn't going to retain me.Go back & negotiate a fair raise & look at real retention incentives @fordnation @CathrynOna @NurseWithSign

#BREAKING - The Ontario nurses association met with Premier Ford again today and say that he agreed to a “Good-faith retention bonus for all front-line nurses in publicly funded facilities” though has not agreed to repeal bill 124

@piya 40% more Nurses per 100,000 people Pre-pandemic - Denmark had 1050 nurses/100,000 Ontario had 665 nurses/100,000 Hospital care exists for people who need nursing care. If you only need a doctor, you see them in their office.

If you point to Denmark dropping all COVID restrictions, the responsible thing to do is also point out the main reason they’re doing it is because they have ample health care and hospital capacity. As usual, context matters.

@NurseWithSign @fordnation Defunding healthcare and laying off nurses has a long proud history in Ontario. Mike Harris started it in 1995. Vaccine mandates are just a drop in the bucket.

@ontarionurses How about paid mentorship - after a few decades of this, I am tired of donating my labour.

To stop the nursing crisis, we need a plan to bring new nurses into the system – and support them when they arrive. This means clearing barriers for IENs and retired nurses to return, late-career nurses devoted to mentorship, and more students and bridging programs.

On the eve of the Quebec mosque shooting anniversary, with calls to act against hate, we have Confederate flags in our nation's capital. It's a gut check for not only Muslim Canadians, but all Canadians.

I am focusing all my attention and energy on the upcoming Feb 3rd meeting between Premier Ford and Nurses. I refuse to be distracted by anything else. Counting down to #RepealBill124

@birgitomo We nurses are all so angry, we deserve our anger… it’s a just anger! Your manager needs to be quiet and to start listening and understanding. We nurses deserve support. Our nursing leadership needs to do better.

One of the managers to me: "I saw your CBC interview. You were so articulate and didn't even look angry. Thank you for representing nursing so well". I have never ever heard a white person receiving "didn't even look angry" as a compliment. Never! I know she meant well but....

@GailVazOxlade The right to strike would help - as long as we are demeaned essential, we haven’t much clout - as this very moment illustrates quite well. Bill124 is just one of decades of devaluation from our boss, the government and OHA drives a hard bargain every time our leaders negotiate

@carlyweeks It’s self inflicted. Poor leadership, pay stagnant - now locked at 1% a year thanks to Ford, arrogant physicians, morale demolished, abusive policies, firing the vaccinated, terrifying the staff, absurd union contracts… nothing has worked well for years.

As more areas start to remove health restrictions, it's worth remembering these rules were largely put in place to preserve health system capacity. Many hospitals in Canada have cancelled all but the most urgent procedures. Patients across the country waiting for appts & surgery.

We, and the Ontario Nurses Association, remember things differently. From 2017: “Our hospitals have been starved of funding for years, and our patients have paid the price as hospitals slashed more than 1,600 RN positions – to dangerously low levels.” ona.org/news-posts/ona…

If nursing, a female-dominated profession, prioritized flexible work hours, many nurses wouldn't work in precarious nursing positions. Not to mention the inequitable pay which doesn't even cover childcare fees. Nurses deserve better every single day!

My friend has been battling cancer since last year. She's an agency ICU nurse & doesn't qualify for sick leave or any kind of benefit. Yes, she chose to work as an agency nurse to accommodate parenting her children. Always remember that nobody chooses precarity over job security
