My Thoughts on Episode 11 of The Pitt Season 2!
#ThePittSpoilers.. duh.
If I had to describe the episode in one word it would be the word I've been throwing around every time I talk about it: INTENSE.
They touched on a lot of important topics but we also got big moments we've been waiting all season long for, so let's dive in.
As usual, my thoughts and opinions are my own and you don't have to see the episode in the same way as me. The best thing about this show is that we all get to have our own interpretations.
Just keep it respectful or I will cry and that would be so messed up if you made me cry.. like how could you actually do that to me? I'm five feet tall.
We'll go character by character as always.
I want to start with Javadi because I think while we didn't get as much of her as I'd like (big Javadi fan) what we did get was fantastic.
Javadi's mother coming in and assuming she screwed up was annoying and I loved that Robby had her back. She does deserve to be there, even if in my personal opinion I don't think she will end up in the ED permanently. Her relationship with her parents is very similar to mine with my parents when they were still alive. My father wanted me to pursue safe and easy options, and my mother wanted me to follow my heart and while they both obviously loved me it was always an issue being torn between what I want and what will disappoint one of your parents. I followed my heart and now I'm in a career that I love, Motorsports!
I also loved how empathetic she was with Ogilvie's struggles. You could really see that she was in that moment really feeling bad for him and instead of answering questions to compete, she was doing it to help him and I really enjoyed that. Javadi my angel.
Speaking of Ogilvie, we're obviously at the start of his humbling and (hopefully) redemption. Seeing his fallout from the kidney stones patient, one that reminded him of his father was really tough. Samira (we'll get there) and Robby looking disappointed in him, it really hit him hard. He's learning, and he does have a long way to go but with people like Cassie (and some more to come) he's definitely got a good shot of finding a little more humanity. Which he'll need if this is the career he wants.
"We're healers, not judges."
Speaking of Samira.. my queen.. who is definitely going through it.. I hate that she's second guessing being in the ED. I understand why she's feeling this way, her entire future feels incredibly uncertain and that is disorientating but as abrasive as he is Robby is right when he said you have to treat the ED like a fortress, that doesn't mean don't process what you leave outside (MICHAEL!!) but you can't let it get in the way of what they do.. save lives. I think she'll turn it around, she's a phenomenal doctor and her heart is big. Just need her to remember why she wanted to be a doctor in the first place.
Another empathy factory is one Cassie McKay who as per usual rises in the ranks each week as a standout for me. Her work with Kiki, her going rogue and crossing the hospital bounds with Ogilvie to help her was just pure goodness for me. She goes above and beyond and she genuinely cares for her patients. I was gutted that she missed saying goodbye to Roxie, and so was she. But with no time to mourn that fact she immediately turned back on her nature when ICE showed up. Wanting to protect Perdita. I loved that.
The ICE Storyline was a hot topic before airing and people were worried about The Pitt "both sides"-ing it but I never had any doubts. I wish they didn't do interviews about it beforehand because it made a lot of people mad and nervous and rightfully so. But they made it clear there is NO place for an "organization" like that in a place for healing. It's inhumane, disgusting, and deplorable. It's an absolute shame that it's reality for the people of this country. The show was a little light on telling them off in my opinion, but the point was made. Robby was clear in his lashing, the staff and patients walking out because they didn't feel safe.. AT A HOSPITAL the one place they should feel safe. Horrible. Reality is even worse. FUCK ICE.
Jesse as usual is the goat. He defended Perdita and was brave and fuck them for taking him and her. Justice and freedom for them both.
Mel's storyline with her sister is interesting and I don't have siblings so I'm not sure how I would feel in her shoes, but I do like the conversations she had with Langdon and with Dana.
Dana is obviously going through a lot as we'll see and you can start to see the cracks forming in her with her snapping.. very interesting.
The hot car child patient was brutal. I felt so badly for him and it was interesting to see the dynamics of a case between Robby, Al-Hashimi and Joy. Robby being very much someone who leads with his gut, Al-Hashimi who leads with her empathy, and Joy who is a mix of both. It was nice to see Al-Hashimi save her outside the hospital (It was nice to be outside to begin with) and then her conversation with her in the behavioral unit. Robby's face when they were talking about suicidal/self-harm ideation.. AHHHH!!! Very good case overall.
Santos and Langdon.. I'm not going to act like Santos is perfect but her frustrations ARE valid. I know people act like she's the devil incarnate but her issue is not with how he was a dick to her (WHICH HE ADMITTED SO PEOPLE CAN STOP ACTING LIKE THAT'S NOT CANON!!) her issue is with a lack of accountability for the reality of what REALLY happened. He took accountability for being a drug user but NOT for stealing from patients and putting them at risk and she has every right in my opinion to point that out and be upset that people, like online, are ignoring that fact. Do I think he should have to tell EVERYONE to be forgiven? No. But right now she's sitting with that knowledge along with Robby, Garcia and maybe Whitaker.. and it's hard not to feel angry about it. I understand her.
Langdon is not evil either, he has atoned for some things but he also came to her to apologize but ONLY for being a dick.. for being mean to her, and I think that's where Santos is getting frustrated because it's not JUST about that. It's complicated and he's expecting a simple resolution. It's just not possible. Let's see where this goes but I'm already dreading the discourse.
DUKE!!!! MY GRANDPAAAAAAA!!! I love Duke. There is endless amounts of love for him in my heart. I love his bond with Robby and his blossoming bond with Whitaker. It's always a delight.. but his medical situation.. it's not looking good and Robby knows it. It's very sad. Robby obviously cares about him deeply and can't go through the loss of yet another mentor. Not with everything else he has going on. Robby keeping Whitaker on top of it as well is really heartwarming for me as a Hucklerobby truther lolk
Robby is clearly unraveling and it's just the beginning, that's all I have to say on that. We're in for it.
Whitaker and Santos working together is always a thrill but it's not easy to watch them squabble when you know they really care about each other. Whitaker asking her if she's okay, trying to get her to open up about Langdon because he wants to gauge where she's at before giving her the news of Robby's offer.. they clearly care about each other and I'm like all Whitsantos fans anxious about what's next for them. I have hope though. Whitsantos FOREVER!!
EMMA!!!! We all knew the Hula Hoop moment would come eventually and here it is.. She is so scared and she just wanted to help him. It's horrible and obviously that's getting settled in the next episode but my heart was breaking and I was screaming at my laptop!! EMMA!!!!
Really fantastic episode. I'm looking forward to to the discussions we'll get out of it, but not the discourse!
What did YOU think of the episode!
Let me know! I really wanna know!!

@vivithebanshee "moving in with Robby" aside, why does the music here sound like tom cruise is defusing a bomb just outside the shot

Gerran Howell talks about Whitaker attempting to tell Santos about the offer to move in with Robby, and how they will miss each other.
