i don't think Toby Fox is making "hard" fights easy now, i think we've all just gotten crazy good at bullet hells now, playing Undertale and Deltarune for 10 years. the next "super hard boss fight" has gotta be actually fucking impossible to challenge us anymore

@CStickernoodle also, like, the fact that there is a player who is separate from the character controlled by the player is important to Undertale's story. if you're not playing it, you lose the weight of that aspect of the story!

Undertale is such a great example of having a story that only works in the medium of video games because the story is directly influenced by your actions. Yet somehow people will say that the gameplay is unimportant to the story. You wouldn’t have a story if not for the gameplay!

When I say reflexiveness, I mean that you're active, in the moment, in real time, directly acting towards and reacting against enemies and obstacles.

@sailoryue Exactly. Now which would you call a burger, if you had to pick one, between the chicken sandwich listed above, or a burger that uses ground meat and other traditional burger ingredients, but sliced bread instead. Obv sliced bread isn't ideal, but I think it is much closer.

It's like there's no regard for the word burger anymore. I'd sooner call traditional burger ingredients in a lettuce wrap, or white bread, a burger, than non burger meat a burger.

@andronauts @ctostoic play it provides a completely different context and a completely different experience, because a passive observer has no expectation of choice and no illusion of control (or lack thereof)

@andronauts @ctostoic DDLC not having branching paths is part of the artistic intent! its a subversion of the player's expectation that they will have choices, which is then used to question what choice even means in video games (i.e the choice to delete Monika). passively observing someone else (1/2)
