@spacewxwatch Would it be accurate to say that if the Bz had flipped/been sustained negative, then the outcome would’ve more accurately matched the models’ predictions?

While the aurora came out to play last night, views weren’t widespread and models largely exaggerated the event, which we warned about in our forecast discussion ⤵️ The human in the loop remains an essential part of space weather forecasting!

Not expecting much tonight folks. Big CME probably arrives during the daytime tomorrow, seems like there’s quite good confidence about that, question is does the storm hold until darkness falls for those of us in the U.S.? TONIGHT'S AURORA+CLOUDS FORECAST: We stay on the conservative side of things this evening as we begin to see the beginnings of a coronal mass ejection impact in the ACE/DSCOVR solar wind data. We think #aurora viewing will be fairly limited in scope for the United States this evening based on the data we're currently seeing at various spacecraft. Things may change very late tonight or tomorrow, July 30 as additional CMEs may arrive, but unless something big changes, we're not expecting widespread aurora across the United States tonight despite the ongoing CME arrival. Updates to this forecast will be provided this evening if things change or conditions warrant a southward move of the aurora viewing line. I’m making it my goal in 2023 to work on this and try to make everything available. It’s a bit complicated, a lot of it is out of my hands but I want this music to be available to anyone anywhere anytime.

@ADirtBlockk It was a handful of factors that made me not wait. Not a huge fan/don’t care that much for the redesign, we still don’t have a date for when it’s coming to the US, got a good deal for my old car, price was good on this new model 3 and tax credit may be reduced next year
