Roddenberry pulled off the first interracial kiss during a time when a thing like that was a huge no-no in Hollywood. He made it part of the story. Most of the Fans did not object. In contrast, Kurtzman can't see a gay character as simply a part of the show. He wants to make it a focal point in many scenes. Jay-Den Kraag's father had the same Klingon attitudes about family and weaknesses in an earlier Academy episode. Kurtzman has done some wonderful shows in the past. WTF happened to him? Scream, Nightmare on Elm Street 3, Hercules, Xena: Warrior Princess, The Mummy, Ender's Game, Sleepy Hollow, The Proposal, JJ's Trek films, and so on. The guy has talent. These shows could have been great. Why did he want to ruin the two shows that fans have waited forever to see: Section 31 and Academy?
