The reason this story is trending is the same reason why Collins campaign is growing as it is. The story mentioned by @SheriffChitwood about a wounded deputy, in pain and medicated, recognizing Collins not from a political ad but from military leadership instruction where Collins had been a case study is a powerful story. There are consultants who would sell a kidney for that story and still fail to understand why it works. It works because it can't be focus-grouped into existence. It's not a manufactured proof point. It’s independent validation from the world outside politics. That is why Collins’ campaign has room to grow. He’s not asking voters to accept his "brand" He’s just introducing them to evidence, I watched it first-hand

Donalds’ own internal has Collins at 7% before most voters have even heard the Chitwood story, seen the late-night call, or understood why people who actually know leadership keep gravitating toward him. That’s not bad news though the haters will try to spin it as such. That’s the race before introduction. Name ID can get you a number. Trust gets you a movement.

A man had a mission. The mission changed. The pain didn’t disappear. The injury didn't become pleasant. But it became usable. This is what separates formation from "trauma-politics." Modern politics is full of people who parade wounds as credentials while offering no evidence that the wound taught them anything except resentment. Collins’ claim here is different. He’s not saying hardship made him special. He is saying hardship prepared him for service. “If you get knocked down, dust it off, smile and get back up and keep fighting.”

Tell me more that you don’t know shit about what a first sergeant does or understand that the man served in specialized combat missions for almost 20 years combined. @JayCollinsFL has the education and intelligence to do more than Renner because realistically, he already has. That “barbecue business” served millions of meals within days to those in need. Keep downplaying Jay’s achievements though. Randy Fine is a lawyer. Does that make him a good Governor pick? Hell no. Daniel Perez is speaker. Does that mean he is qualified? Hell no. Renner is uninspiring, although I’m sure a nice guy, but as you said, a nice guy does not a good governor make.

Except he does have the experience of deploying people and services in emergent situations. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about the issues Florida is facing and can easily speak about where he stands and what he plans to do. He’s not just nice, he’s an absolute badass that motivates people and flat out gets shit done. He has solid conservative values and will stand firm for the people of Florida. DeSantis has appointed him to EOG. He’s known him for years at this point. DeSantis trusts him to be Governor. So do I.

Jay Collins said he didn't understand why God kept him from continuing as a Green Beret. But now, looking back, he sees that the break in his path was not the end of the mission. It was preparation for another one. You do not get a spine of steel for free. You do not get warrior ethos from a campaign consultant. You do not get leadership by drifting comfortably through career politics. You get it through heat, pressure, injury, recovery, and the choice to keep fighting. That is the argument for Jay Collins: he was not made by office. He was forged before office ever found him.

Renner is a good dude, and was a good speaker. I wrote when he announced we were getting a real primary because a conservative had entered. Now it's been almost 9 months, and he's petered out. The people supporting him don't actually support him they just want to hurt Collins. At this point he can choose to align with Collins to help fight the good fight, or he can just make it more obvious he's angling for Lt Governor. I'm hoping that's not the case, but hope is finite @Paul_Renner

Byron's Internal poll still showing Jay is the Schelling alternate candidate. After going on 9 months in @Paul_Renner's out, at this point if he stays in he's making it clear that he's running to water down the field and ensuring a Byron just needs a plurality. I'm still hoping that's not true, but I'm ever the optimist when it comes to human incentive and the better angels of our nature.
