Tesla and LG Energy Solution have signed a major $4.3 billion deal to produce LFP prismatic battery cells at an LG-owned plant in Lansing/Delta Township, Michigan. This expands their partnership, with production expected to start in 2027. These batteries will power Tesla’s Megapack energy storage systems, boosting domestic US battery supply chains. Local leaders see it as a big economic win for the area. *Earlier (in 2025), LGES opened/expanded a major LFP battery plant in Holland, Michigan, focused on grid-scale energy storage. It’s one of the first large-scale US facilities for LFP cells, with a capacity of around 16.5 GWh annually for energy storage systems (ESS), helping onshore production away from Chinese dominance.
