Deeply troubling. The 2007 passage advocates espionage and secret, extra parliamentary coordination (Echelon) as a route to ‘order’ the antithesis of cypherpunk values. His 2009 line that ‘freedom and democracy are incompatible’ points the same way. If ‘order’ requires surveillance, it is not freedom; without freedom, democracy is a veneer.
