The only comparable sort of midfield all-rounder I considered his equal was the Brazilian Falcao and he had a smaller window of being world-class. Uli Stielike and Felix Magath were deserving of mentions (Matthaus is the next generation) but not as good. Bryan Robson similar.

It is indeed a scandal and should only happen if the opponent agrees the switch. The CL provides huge riches for participating clubs to build large, deep squads specifically to navigate the extra fixtures, now PSG get the best of all worlds.

French league moves PS-G’s top-of-the-table clash with Lens to help PS-G “prepare in the best conditions” for the Champions League. PS-G’s trip to Lens was scheduled between two legs of PS-G quarter-final with Liverpool. Decision clearly damages the French league from a sporting perspective (if not in pursuit of Uefa co-efficient points). It’s unfair on Lens. It's also unfair on Liverpool. It’s certainly hard to see PL doing the same for English teams. To help Liverpool prepare in the best conditions should the Fulham match between the PS-G games be postponed? No chance of that happening. Why should Fulham be messed around? Interesting to see Liverpool/Slot’s reaction to PS-G fixture success.

History will be kind to Edin Dzeko. Too low-key to ever be a Ballon D’Or sort of player, he has still put in consistently strong seasons almost every year since 2008. A great example of a player who adapted his game with age to stay relevant.

Undoubtedly he will not get the full payout of his contract length, but the point is that he will get much more than he would were he sacked with a 3 year contract. Otherwise there would have been no point in him signing it.

What Newcastle fans never seem to take on board is that they will never be a destination club for any player. Being able to pay better wages would just delay the inevitable move anyway.

People want to blame Howe more than PSR because it’s more fashionable. Had Howe been able to lure his first choice targets with the wages 15th placed Man Utd and other teams were able to do, we wouldn’t be in this position. The PL made these rules to stifle us - blame them more.

@ademir2z It's a bit odd scouting a player who was already a superstar at that stage and very much in the public domain, even allowing for the times when access was not so ubiquitous. And there was never any chance he would sign for an English club.

Worth noting that Hagi was regarded as among the best players in the world at this point. Was the star player of a Steaua Bucharest team who’d made the EC final the prior season.

@BeyondTLM @Camden_Paul The housing is too close to the back of the stand to be Boundary Park, assuming it's looking at the Rochdale Rd End. There is an estate in that general area but they're 1960s dormer bungalows
