A feature we didn't initially plan for is Blessings. Every few levels you get to choose a randomized reward. You pick one of three options, drawn from a pool of 30 Blessings. Some of them are simple stats bonuses, while others can be quite run-altering!
What's cool about it is how those 30 options are composed. 10 are from your current class, and 10 are from a pool of generic options. The last 10 are based on the class of your chosen legacy character - which could be any of the three classes in the game.
This means that you may have a Flower Knight character that earns Blessings from either of the two other classes; unlocking some cool synergies and combos!

Normally, game development is full of revised features. Features that have to be cut, or revised into an entirely different shape.
Surprisingly, Bloodscript has seen very little of that. Yes, many features were cut before work started. We definitely killed off many ideas before they got into the code. Most notably: A Bestiary! That one still hurts!
But maybe prioritizing like this has helped. This way, we ended up with a pretty focused game, and with very little feature re-work.
The mission was always: Finish the game first, then build upon it. 🩶

@Ulfsire @heliofractal The perfect storm of technology and art. 🤍

We’re hard at work toward the full release in August!
The demo goes down to B7, but the full game dives much deeper, with branching dungeons. ⚔️
Even more dangerous and captivating “special rooms” await you! 🚪

@akaihito13 That's a simple but effective pre battle intro! Well done!

Why touch the grass yourself when you can make others to do it?

@Algolemeth This looks really good. I'm curious how the automation and "gambit style" tactics will play. Looking forward to it!

One of the biggest challenges was making combat feel heavy. How to bring in the exciting game feel of action RPGs into a framework of classic ascii games?
Screenshake.
Hit traces.
Damage animations.
Blood particles.
A lot of these simple things make a huge difference, especially if they work well together. Recently, we added a screenshake effect, and a small feint attack trace for each attack, depending on weapon type. It really adds to the feel of basic combat! :)

"The Flower has long left the world. Yet its last knight still walks." 🌸
Become the Flower Knight.
A warrior who refuses to die. Hope prevails by relentlessly pushing forward. Every battle is fought with impossible grace and elegance. The Flower Knight has a natural aptitude for swift blades and forbidden magic.
Here's a look at the Flower Knight's selection screen, ultimate technique, and one of the many visual descriptions for this class.

@pupworx Great work!
Wishlists have little to do with game quality. It's a visibility problem, and a value proposition problem (2 different challenges).
No wonder AAA gaming spend huge amounts of game marketing :)

At this #MotivationMonday i want to share this screenshot!
This tiny number of WLs didn't came easy. There was work, some tiny festivals, short videos, Trailer and a lot of posting in socials.
For some reason Steam don't wat to "just show orgalically" my game to everyone. Or maybe it's not good enough🤷♂️
Anyway, no matter how many Wishlists you have- keep building, make something good or even awesome. And you'll definitely get there.
Cheers!

Why ASCII visuals?
To be honest, it was the only art style where I felt I could finish the game by myself while still reaching the quality bar I had in mind.
It all started with a simple question:
What would happen if Nethack and Drakengard 3 had a crazy offspring?
Almost two years later, I'm still trying to answer it.

45 seconds of raw gameplay footage.
First biome (Ash Catechism), using the Flower Knight class with the Old King's Chanting Staff weapon.
What do you think?

Sorry, My King. Only 1 week left before the playtest ends. Then it's time to polish the game and prepare the public demo for Steam Next Fest this fall. Play it while you still can! #indiegame #gamedev #indiedev #pixelart #roguelite #horror #Steam #NextFest

This should be right up your wheel house. Bloodscript//END is a dark, animated ASCII roguelike that feels like Drakengard and Nethack had an unholy offspring.

@stephen_ho333 Very interesting angle; the small map scenarios create a different kind of roguelike 'puzzle'. Looking very cool! Reminds me a bit of classics like Path to Achra and Ringlorn Saga!

@BeeBug_Nic As you play the game and defeat powerful bosses, this broken scripture turns readable, revealing more about the fate of the world.. :)
