@TheEggman64 I won't say it's 'better', just more 'accessible'. Plenty of people played through the game in its previous state for review.

Do Pearl Abyss deserve credit for updating Crimson Desert so quickly? Or criticism for releasing a game that could've been made a lot better with just a few days of work? Great they're delivering a better game, but this 'release now and then fix it later' approach needs to stop

@FonzGaming You are correct. The modern vocal gamer is a generalization of what has worked in the past decade. Less niche, more mainstream, predictable. This happens in every medium and we're seeing it happen to gaming in real-time.

I'm honestly confused by the common hate for Crimson Desert from big reviewers. Mostly the "the puzzles are too hard", and the "narrative is bad!" Maybe it's having grown up in an era where gaming didn't hold your hand at all?

@JezCorden From personal experience, I've had a great time despite having to turn off the internet to start (minor for people like me), but then I turn it on and cloud saves have been flawless between PC, Series X, and ROG Ally.

Crimson Desert should've been a big win for Xbox PC / Xbox Play Anywhere. Instead it showed that there's still so much work to be done to fix Xbox PC. With Xbox Helix merging console and PC together, Microsoft has its work cut out ahead of launch. windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/cr… 👇

Confirmed GenAI use that was undisclosed to Steam and now they're apologizing claiming it's a simple "Oversight" that somehow sat in their game for YEARS and made into a huge launch. Then somehow overlooked it when putting it on Steam, where they would have been asked about AI use. Pearl Abyss lied to platforms to get it on the market, Crimson Desert is riddled with GenAI assets that stole from real artists. Supporting this kind of behavior from a company will destroy gaming, leaving us with a mediocre hellscape of boring, uninteresting trash like every AI video out there, everything will become shit mobile ads. Say no to this trash, get refunds and spend that money on indies who are actually doing things right.
Crimson Desert@CrimsonDesert_

We would like to address questions regarding the use of AI in Crimson Desert. During development, some 2D visual props were created as part of early-stage iteration using experimental AI generative tools. These assets helped us rapidly explore tone and atmosphere in the earlier phases of production. However, our intention has always been for any such assets to be replaced, following final work and review by our art and development teams, with work that aligned with our quality standards and creative direction. Following reports from our community, we have identified that some of these assets were unintentionally included in the final release. This is not in line with our internal standards, and we take full responsibility for it. We also acknowledge that we should have clearly disclosed our use of AI. While these tools were primarily used during early production, with the expectation that these assets would be replaced prior to release, we recognize that this does not excuse the lack of transparency. We sincerely apologize for these oversights. We are currently conducting a comprehensive audit of all in-game assets and are taking steps to replace any affected content. Updated assets will be rolled out in upcoming patches. In parallel, we are reviewing and strengthening our internal processes to ensure greater transparency and consistency in how we communicate with players moving forward.

Watched some Crimson Desert streams last night. Game looks -- amazing. My thought was "Oblivion + Dark Souls (at least bosses)". A dev friend who makes rpg's loves it and calls it "Oblivion + Red Dead". It may have some jank but it seems early reviews are off. WIll be picking it up soon, although I really don't want a 150hour game right now! How are you liking it if you are playing?

@hollyh898 @DestinLegarie @Josh_B23 Exactly, the options the game gives you shows how narrow the general audience approaches things, but that's fine because a good game isn't for everyone.

@DestinLegarie @Josh_B23 But it teaches you already to use the sun reflection to burn away vines. You can do the same with this. That people get stuck is their own fault ngl. Much like the button press with the force push. It tells you what to do. People still fail. Some people just need yellow paint

Getting called dumb for this but it’s just bad design. I stick the arrow in, nothing happens. No feedback I’m close enough or doing it right. I try a different spot. The bezier falls over. I try another. My character bumps it and puts his bow down. No light. The only interact is to turn it off. I give in and google it. I was right the first time. The video is flooded with comments complaining about the same experience. The game has little issues like this that detract from the fun. I didn’t feel smart when I found out my first instinct was correct. I was annoyed at the game. 15k views on a tutorial to light an arrow on fire means you messed up imo youtu.be/q1o05rZZ400?si…

I want the game to be better. Tons of people got stuck here. There’s tutorials for a basic ass mechanic with thousands of views. It’s a very simple example of why people don’t like the game. Why the Steam reviews are mixed and why it’s polarizing. I figured it out immediately but it didn’t work. That’s a problem.

@DestinLegarie It's the changing of the times. Like short form videos and the decline of movie theaters. Lowest common denominator. Same thing with Epic engine being so popular and general game optimization has declined.

It is frustrating seeing voices in gaming complain about the controls. Shows how the lowest common denominator has infiltrated games' mechanical design conversation. But it's the same with how more people watch content in small chunks on their phones, changing movie and tv industry. Lowest common denominator.

It has been frustrating seeing streamers who have never touched an MMO struggle with Crimson Desert. They get mad about nothing quests like “get two pieces of wood for blacksmith” when that’s very standard. I never had an issue with the quest design. It’s the controls i beef with
Gene Park@GenePark

Single player MMO designed games break people’s brains. Honestly this discourse makes me glad Xenoblade Chronicles X didn’t sell well and remains super niche. People still aren’t ready for that game lol

Fellow Greymanes, It has been a little over 36 hours since launch, and we would like to start with a sincere thank you to everyone who has been playing Crimson Desert. I wouldn't claim it has terrible controls - especially if you haven't played it and you're just parroting unverified claims. It's user preference, and this game prefers a more deliberate physics-based movement. They are different games. ...but i understand a post like this invited engagement.

From what I have read. Crimson Desert's controls, movement and inputs are not as good. Nothing wrong with complex mechanics or gameplay focus, but complex mechanics + terrible controls can really be bad for a game. Zelda has great controls, previous lore / history. Breath of the Wild looks to have more fleshed out gameplay mechanics with the Sheikah slate than anything I've seen in Crimson Desert.
Matheus Garcia | 🎮@Waynesep1

@Colteastwood Hmm you may have a completely different underlying problem then. With this issue the game simply wouldn't launch, but for the app to check for online when you can play games offline isn't normal. I do this all the time with the Xbox App.

@Tomiply1 @Ruleof2Review But the artists control the gaming. If an artists is contributing to their work being used in DLSS 5, that's not the consumer's fault. If AAA studios don't have good artists anymore, that will change the tide. Consumers will go to where the art is.

@Ruleof2Review I mean, it's not just "this side of the hobby" or being "needlessly dramatic." If DLSS 5 becomes the norm, characters will have AI generated faces, lighting and other art will be AI generated as well, so it's definitely something we don't want in gaming. Respect to the artists.

I guess there’s a big “controversy” going on around the new DLSS 5 update, AI art (boo), and something Digital Foundry said? I’ve gotta be honest I’m really glad that I don’t follow this side of the hobby, man. Seems needlessly dramatic. But I’m out of the loop so…who knows.
