From MUST to the International Space Station! We are bursting with pride for Eng. Zaina Kalyankolo from FAST, a key mind behind the AI-powered ClimCam now orbiting Earth. Her achievement is a true testament to the power of science and technology at @MbararaUST. Zaina helped design and calibrate the camera’s optical subsystem. She worked on configuring and aligning the optical sensors responsible for capturing high-quality environmental imagery and spectral data. Her rigorous testing ensured the system could capture clear images under varying atmospheric conditions. These optics are central to the ClimCam mission, enabling the instrument to gather precise visual data for climate analysis. She worked with colleagues from Egypt, Kenya and Uganda (Kyambogo University, Soroti University)

When I saw the news about Uganda’s upcoming CLIMCAM launch, I felt a real sense of pride. Not the kind you just scroll past online, but the kind that makes you stop and think about how far we’ve come as a country. For many of us, space science has always felt far away. So seeing Uganda connected to a mission going to the International Space Station is a big deal. It tells a simple story: we are starting to step into spaces we once only watched from a distance. According to reports, CLIMCAM is the result of years of effort and collaboration between Uganda, Kenya, and Egypt, with assistance from international partners. That alone deserves recognition. The ClimCam (Climate Camera) mission, a historic tri-national project between Kenya, Uganda and Egypt was successfully launched Today, as part of the Cygnus NG-24 resupply mission, which is currently en route to the International Space Station (ISS).

Developed with support from the prestigious "Access to Space for All" programme by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and Airbus, CLIMCAM is scheduled for liftoff to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 Cygnus NG-24 mission. Hon. @DrMusenero has this afternoon commissioned the Electric Fast-Charging Station at Makerere University. Located in the Senate Building Parking Lot, the station was established in collaboration with @KiiraMotors, which also donated the electric bus to aid movement of differently-abled staff and students. The Vice Chancellor @ProfNawangwe heralded the moment as a multi-faceted achievement of not only bolstering Makerere's inclusive agenda but also taking lead in e-mobility adoption among public institutions, an agenda @STIsecretariat reiterated its commitment to supporting. This occasion is a true testament to the power of partnership between academia, industry and @GovUganda.
