🧵🚨 #ProudCoachMoment This morning, we had our @WillowSpringHS school wide awards ceremony. One of my students with sensory difficulty wanted to attend, but was beyond nervous. Until today, he has never attended an assembly in high school. When I saw a few🏈players, I asked him if he wanted to sit with my big guys, he lit up from ear to ear.😁 @giancola_sam @Peytonchisholm @CharlieHooks07 & @M_HaynesworthJr embraced my student like he was one of the guys and invited him to sit with them. He smirked and walked off with them like I didn't even exist anymore😂. All of a sudden, he was carefree. When my student got nervous during the ceremony, they asked him questions to help redirect his nervous energy. Afterwards, he was so excited that the big guys took the time to sit with him and make him feel comfortable. They made him feel special. He felt like one of the guys. He felt impervious to his anxiety and sensory difficulties. When we did our afternoon check in, he was still grinning. When I texted his mom at the end of the day, she said that he was in such a good mood when he got home and she was looking forward to hearing all about his experience. THIS is what #FAMILY is about. These young men created a culture of understanding, patience, and empathy in a situation when they didn't have to do anything. They embraced someone outside their circle, and brought him into their circle. While not the biggest deal to many, this small gesture these 4 young men made changed my student's entire outlook and completely made his day, week, and maybe even his year. They welcomed him into their circle, even if just for 90 minutes, and he thought the world of them. To my student, they were HEROES👏👏 I am so thankful for these 4 special young men. I cannot give enough praise to Sam, Mark, Charlie and Peyton for their gesture today. It has been a privilege and an honor to have been able to coach these young men with such high character. Not only were they my student's hero, but they are also my hero! They deserve every bit of recognition and praise for their gesture. 💙these young men. #ProudCoach
