When IRCs Go Rogue, Part IV: ‘20s NJ After gaining 4 seats in ‘16-‘18, Dems were looking to sure up their incumbents, so they drew a map to help their members in CDs 3, 5 & 11, while weakening NJ-07 as a compromise. How were they able to do this? They got their preferred tiebreaker on the commission: Retired NJ SC Justice John Wallace, an appointee of former Gov Jim McGreevy (D). Wallace’s logic for choosing the Dem map: Rs got their preferred map last decade. While this reasoning prompted skepticism, the NJ SC ultimately allowed the map to proceed.
