There has always been some amount of elite hypocrisy. Still, I prefer what I call the “John F. Kennedy model of hypocrisy” to what we have now. JFK was a flawed man, but the image he presented to the American public was that he was a good husband, a good father. In his private life, though, he was a philanderer and often an absentee father and had other shortcomings. But he thought it was important to set an example for the people. And now we have the opposite. Today, our elites get married, they have kids, and for the most part, they live a very stable, conventional life. But if you ask them their opinions and attitudes around sex, family, around marriage, around law abidingness, hard work, punctuality, integrity, honesty, and so on, they take a very relaxed attitude. "Non-practicing libertines," as the Yale Law School professor Daniel Markovits calls them. Elites used to pay lip service to conventional values but privately strayed. Now, they publicly support straying, but privately behave in a more conventional way.

@arr_ohh_bee @MiriVinni @robkhenderson I'll offer a counter-point, which is: I think conservatives do not offer a positive vision of marriage to women or men. They offer them a caricature: the tradwife. For the men, merely ask for some participation in masculine rituals. Is it shocking adoption is 1-sided?

@arr_ohh_bee @MiriVinni I'll also say I feel like a lot of this is them trying to cope with the the messy personal lives of various influential conservative figures (eg: Trump, Elijah Schaffer) while somehow making this the liberal elite's fault.

This is probably for the best tbh. The whole “elite talk the sixties walk the fifties” canard is a result of the marriage market being a lot better up there. A working class or America b ladies are probably better off in a gay polycule or w/e than marrying a deadbeat. As long as lower class men remain unmarriageable. Their female counterparts should find alternatives

@poe_collector I get his point, but he's an educator. He should be educating them how to use AI. The internet is the exact same. It's full of knowledge and answers, or it's full of a lot of other brain rotting things. We need to teach students how to use AI effectively, not blindly.

The objectives we ought to care about:

2) Elimination of the nuclear threat;
3) Safe passage through Hormuz.
