"The one with the lowest correlation to NFL receiving production was the fastest group. It's not just low, it's negative...which means, as the 40 time got better, the yardage output got worse." A whole lot more goes into moving skillfully on a football field than running fast in a straight line in your underwear by yourself!

Give me the kid who surges late in his senior year over the one anointed as a freshman. That late riser had to grind. Had to wait. Had to earn it the hard way. He’s usually more hungry. More humble. More prepared for adversity. There’s a reason so many recruiting rankings don’t hold up long term. A lot of people aren’t ready for that conversation yet. Which would you bet on: early hype or earned momentum?

This isn’t a conspiracy. This is a call to shine a light on something we’ve extensively researched. This is about the rise in injuries on turf VS natural grass. Higher ACL tear risk on turf tracks with altered traction and torque transfer. Increased shoe–surface friction changes tibial rotation and load timing. Mechanical stress, not “bad movement,” drives the injury signal. The data supports this. 🧬

If you’ve been in the sports performance world, then this info has been widely known for quite some time and is not new to any of us. Research on early specialization of youth in sports has also shown an increased amount of overuse injuries and burnout.

Early specialization is overrated. Generalists excel over time. Data on >34k stars in sports, music, science, and chess: Focusing on a single field predicts a faster rise, but cross-training foreshadows a higher peak. The most successful adults start off as well-rounded kids.
