@mjarbo like the apartment scene in bvs where lois is taking a bath and they have the conversation about whether or not superman should intervene in all these things, even to save her, and it was better than how gunn did it. man, snyder just really didn't get it.

Notice how Donovan Martin doesn't engage with the argument I was making about why James Gunn fears Superman. Fearing him doesn't mean that he hates him, it means that he's out of his comfort zone with him, which is why he didn't direct the Superman movie when it was offered to him in the summer of 2018. But that's what Donovan here doesn't understand, and you can tell that he fed my tweet through chat GPT in hopes of coming up with some argument to discredit me, when all he can really say is that I'm a Snyder bro. Yes, I prefer Zack Snyder's DC films, but I've also said that I very much enjoy Superman from last year and I've already watched Supergirl twice. But to donovan, you're not allowed to be critical of something you enjoy. This is the downside to putting out nuanced and researched opinions on social media, you always get gadflys like Donovan here, who cannot ever take an L... Despite being proven wrong at every turn.

I just finished Season One of 2018’s Barry, Bill Hader & Alec Berg’s excellent dramatic comedy about an ex-Marine turned contract killer who becomes entangled with the Azerbaijanian mob in Los Angeles while stumbling into an acting class run by Henry Winkler. Thoughtful and well-written, with hilarious performances all around, Barry manages to balance the comedy by finding absurd truth in the situations. Hader & Winkler won Emmys for their performances (and Hader won a well-deserved DGA award) but Anthony Carrigan’s NoHo Hank is a revelation, and Stephen Root is brilliant as Barry’s handler. There are so many insights into humanity and personal identity, and the struggle for success in the Los Angeles dream factory, that I found myself emotionally engaged well beyond expectation. The series is something of a cousin to John Cusack’s terrific Grosse Pointe Blank, and if you like that film you’ll love Barry. The question is, does it maintain its excellence through its two year Covid-19 shutdown and subsequent culture collapse for seasons 2-4?

I understand that a lot of people believe in the concept of manifestation, and that if you believe in something hard enough it will happen... But man of Tomorrow will not feature batman, therefore it will not break a billion dollars Bookmark this tweet

Man of Tomorrow cannot fail; if it fails, goodbye James Gunn's DC. Luckily for us, we all know that Man of Tomorrow will come close to a billion dollars at the box office.

@mjarbo the reeves batman has him in a chokehold. happy to be prven wrong, but you cannot have a compelling and profitable dc universe without a batman. he is the marquis player, the money bag, period. reeves doesn't wanna play and gunn/safran can't kill the only thing making money

James Gunn’s DC Studios contract reportedly runs into 2027, which makes this next stretch very interesting. Because now the clock is real. CLAYFACE has to work. MAN OF TOMORROW has to work. Not just with Film Twitter. Not just with the “trust the plan” crowd. Actual people need to show up. Will they? After SUPERGIRL? Maybe. I’ve seen SUPERGIRL twice, and it is nowhere near the radioactive trash heap some people want it to be. Milly Alcock is good. There is a real movie in there. But it also has fundamental problems that hurt the brand. You can like the movie and still admit that. Come on. DC is now in a spot where the movies have to be cheaper, cleaner, and more urgent. No more soft launches for characters the general audience barely knows. No more pretending “unknown character risk” is the same thing as superhero fatigue. And then THE BATMAN PART II hits in 2027 like a giant black cape-shaped audit. If MAN OF TOMORROW underperforms and Reeves overperforms, Warner Bros. is going to notice which lane is actually moving tickets. I love the Snyderverse. I’d love to see those stories finished. But I’m also a realist. That isn’t happening. So if this DCU dies early, what does Warner Bros. even do? Crawl back to TV? Let the brand lay dormant again? Keep Batman alive and shove everyone else into the corporate leftovers bin?

@TheBigPPTake @mjarbo the right wing manosphere crapped all over toy story 5 and it had no impact. crapped HARD on barbie, no impact. because those movies had/have a demographic that showed up for them. supergirl had a target demographic that largely ignored it, same for marvels.

@mjarbo Superman 2025 was incredible and a giant crowd pleaser. Audiences will show up for Man of Tomorrow. Supergirl was hijacked by the right wing manosphere who tainted it before it could even prove itself. But that toxic game doesn’t work on something like Superman.

@ErinUnderwood we're in strange times when any Uwe Boll film gets attention, let alone this much. image is for sure in bad taste. state of play, tho. people farm for engagement however they can. aggravatingly cliche, but it really is best to just ignore it and take it's power away.

I don't know how I feel about this image of one character standing over Supergirl as if he just murdered her. I get that they're both fictional characters, and Citizen Vigilante is a good film that people are enjoying and that Supergirl has some story problems and press problems that have resulted in a box office crash ... but this image of her dead on the ground with the visual implication that he just killed her with a silencer... I just... I don't know how I feel about this... What do you guys think? Yes. I know I am sensitive and I'm often too nice, but this image feels....
The Official ME@Midnights_Edge

In terms of views, Citizen Vigilante may be the biggest movie in the world right now, dominating both Supergirl, James Gunn and the Hollywood Establishment ... and Uwe Boll has words for them. 1/3 @Bollfilms @UweBollRAWNet

@kirkneverdied the twist was bad, but there's gold. the entire concept of his ptsd from what happened in avengers is stupid well done and made you wonder why no one had tackled that before with these things, and the chemistry with the kid was better than with his actual daughter in endgame

@TheCriticalDri2 i think this is premature where we currently stand. look, this was a massive fuck-up for sure. no possible way around that. and it certainly COULD end up that way quickly, the kennedy bit, but i don't think the comparison's nearly as 1 for 1 as this suggests at this stage

#Supergirl stands to lose $100 million after opening to just $68 million worldwide. The DC Studios tentpole cost $170 million to produce and roughly $120 million to market. A source close to “Supergirl” says the movie would need to gross $300 million to break even at the box office. Some project the film's losses will be closer to $80 million if ticket sales can manage to hit $200 million. “This was always going to be a tough hurdle for DC and Warner Bros. because Supergirl isn’t a character that has ever created an event-level blockbuster,” says analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations. “Audience perception of ‘Supergirl’ was not good. This is just a case of the film wasn’t good enough to become an event.” variety.com/2026/film/box-…

Whatever you might think of this film, it feels like box office sabotage to place Supergirl at the bottom of @AMCTheatres movie listings on opening weekend…., below even Leviticus and this rehash of an anniversary film. I can’t believe that @warnerbros did not pay for higher placement. It’s even below Lucky Strike and the Mandalorian. You wouldn’t even know it was playing at AMC. If this is intentional placement to drive down ticket sales by a salty employee, I’d sure the sh*t out of AMC, if I had hundreds of millions on the line. And this is consistent across their theaters, not just Boston. #supergirlmovie #openingweekend

@mjarbo i personally love his trilogy, but i get why so many don't. it was playing with operatic tones, religious imagery, incredibly dark themes, etc etc and there are those of us who love that. they were too expensive and too divisive for tentpole films, but i love that they exist.

People love telling me that nobody cared about Henry Cavill as Superman, Zack Snyder’s movies were garbage, and everyone hated what he did with the character. But last night, I mentioned SUPERGIRL to a new coworker. He said he wanted to see it, then—without any prompting from me—said MAN OF STEEL was his favorite Superman movie and that it was the film that finally made him appreciate the character. I agreed with him, and another coworker immediately perked up and started talking about how much he loved MAN OF STEEL. It is also his favorite Superman movie. Now, all three of us are in our mid-40s. When MAN OF STEEL came out, we were in our early 30s, so maybe it simply arrived at the right time for us. But the larger point remains: a lot of people loved what Zack Snyder did with the DCEU, and they are disappointed that his story never got the chance to continue. I am perfectly fine with David Corenswet as the new Superman. I enjoyed his performance in last year’s movie, and his appearance in SUPERGIRL genuinely elevated the film. It is cool seeing someone new take on the role and do a good job with it. What fascinates me is how aggressively some people attack what came before, as though nobody enjoyed it. That simply is not true. Snyder’s DC movies made Warner Bros. a lot of money. Their enduring presence in online conversations also makes it obvious that plenty of people remain attached to those movies, those portrayals and the larger story Snyder was trying to tell. The funniest part is that the people who claim to hate Zack Snyder are often far more obsessed with discussing him than the people who actually enjoy his work. At a certain point, you have to wonder whether some of these Snyder haters are really just fans who have not come out of the closet yet.

@TheCriticalDri2 this whole conversation is baffling. used to be this is how grassroots passion projects became franchises or how famous directors a la raimi founded careers in which the same or nearly same crew worked with them on every movie. also 20k for a month of work...
