I beg to differ. Independence is a repudiation of the existing constitutional order. Treaty rights and Aboriginal rights are part of that order. Independence means a fresh start, and a chance to fix old ideas that no longer make sense. A successful referendum gives a mandate to negotiate terms to leave. Everything will be on the table in those negotiations. Treaties were deals made with the Crown. In an independent Alberta, if done right, there will be no Crown. Authority will eminate from the people. In a free and independent Alberta, all citizens should be subject to the same laws and standards. Special status and entitlements based upon lineage and group identity should not exist
