Below👇 is a perfect example of the shambolic incoherence of Alberta separatism. Bruce and Keith are the leading legal theorists around Alberta separation. They’re both intelligent guys who I respect. One says separation would have no impact on treaties with First Nations. The other says separation would end the treaties and lead to a complete reset on aboriginal rights. This is not a small detail. The history of Alberta separatism is one of constant infighting. That’s why dozens of separatist groups and parties have come and gone over the past 50 years. Some of the separatists are convinced that it means cold turkey secession. Others say it’s a license to become half-pregnant by negotiating a “sovereignty association” fantasy. Others claim already to be discussing with the US Administration annexation by the United States. Folks that can’t even agree on what separation means, or its fundamental implications, have no business dragging us all into a highly months long shouting match that will leave permanent divisions, and undermine investor confidence in Alberta.
