According to the Sault Star, police were called to a domestic incident at one of the two shooting locations “in the days previous” to Monday’s mass shooting.

The Sault Star has identified the shooter in the Sault Ste. Marie murders as Bob Thomas Hallaert, reporting his ex-wife is still alive, but seriously injured. Hallaert shot his girlfriend, his ex-wife and their three children before killing himself. thesudburystar.com/news/police-ca…

Trying to follow the Maine shooting live is yet another example of how this site has lost its core utility. Twitter used to be one of the absolute best places to follow and stay informed about unfolding live news. X is actively bad at this. Harmful, even.

@JackieAGraham Reddit is genuinely good at a lot of things in how it handles live news — better even at some elements of it than Twitter ever was — but it v. much doesn't have the pulse that made this site essential.

@EdTubb It was crazy that I went to Reddit to try to find up to date information.

@rob_siglio Live sports and live news are what made this site part of my daily routine long before I used it as a content-producing platform. Now, it's bad at all three.

@EdTubb I used to love it for live sports, too. Now it's digging through a pile of blue check BS to try and discern what is the truth and what isn't. It's tiring.
