And then the inevitable logic of business cycles causes economies to slow down, and corporate profits to decline. Markets react and share prices fall. At the same time, salaries become stagnant or even reduce - some even lose their jobs. The retail investor ends up selling as the markets fall, because they need some of their savings to fund big-ticket expenses - like education, health, and EMIs. HNIs can ride it out. Retail cannot.
