"Western propaganda" — the exit door for people who can't answer the question. I asked you to name one country where your system worked. You said China. No free elections, no free press, no free internet, social credit scores, Uyghur camps. That's your shining city on a hill. By the way — your bio says "Campaign for Real Democracy." Your model country hasn't held a free election in its entire existence. You don't want real democracy. You want a benevolent dictatorship that agrees with you. Those don't stay benevolent. "The third world is capitalist" — and the ones that went socialist? Venezuela, Cuba, USSR, North Korea, Cambodia, Zimbabwe. How'd that go? The third world's problem isn't free markets. It's corruption and weak institutions — the exact things that get worse when you hand the state more power. You've dismissed my lived experience, called facts propaganda, and your argument comes down to "just trust the government this time." That's not economics. That's faith in Marxist propaganda.

What tech opinion will put you in this situation?

You just used China as your model society. Let's talk about that "choice-rich environment": - Social credit system that punishes dissent - The Great Firewall — no free internet - No free press, no free elections - Tiananmen Square — tanks for protesters - Uyghur forced labor camps - One-child policy enforced through forced sterilizations That's what "public ownership" looks like when the public has zero say in who runs it. You called it "non-profit." The CCP has more billionaires in its legislature than the US Congress. You say "I lived somewhere" isn't a qualification. Interesting. So lived experience under the system you're defending is worthless, but your infographics are gospel? I left because I watched the theory meet reality. You're defending a system from the outside because you like how it reads on paper. And you're right — nationalised healthcare and transport work in places like Scandinavia. You know what those countries also have? Free markets, private property rights, stock exchanges, and billionaires. They're capitalist mixed economies with strong safety nets. They'd laugh at being called socialist. You don't have an argument for socialism. You have an argument for better-regulated capitalism. Welcome to my side.

"No idea how either system works" — I literally lived in one and chose the other. You're debating from an infographic. Your checklist mixes legitimate critiques of crony capitalism with a fantasy version of socialism that has never existed at scale. "Democratic, interest-free national currencies" and "full public commons" sound great on a graphic. Name one country that implemented them without collapsing into authoritarianism, hyperinflation, or both. I'll save you the search — there isn't one. Because the second you centralize that much economic power "for the people," the people running it become the new ruling class. That's not theory. That's every socialist experiment in the 20th and 21st century. You're not arguing against capitalism. You're arguing against a version of it that I also criticize (I literally said we don't have real capitalism). The difference is my alternative is more economic freedom and accountability. Yours is handing more power to the state and hoping this time they won't abuse it. Orwell already told you how this ends: "they looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and it was impossible to say which was which." The revolutionaries always become the new oppressors. Every. Single. Time.

Based on your posts, you seem to think socialism is the answer... so I'll engage with that and this post. Socialism is the biggest scam sold in the modern era. Equality of outcome cannot be guaranteed. People vary in drive, sacrifice, intelligence, and connections. No system changes that. What socialism DOES change is where power concentrates. I was born in a socialist system. I've seen it firsthand. Power centralizes in the government, and opportunity flows top-down — to family, friends, loyalists. Everyone outside the inner circle becomes a resource to tax, expropriate, or imprison (or eliminate). In capitalism — and to be clear, no country runs pure capitalism; even the US is a mixed economy — power tracks with productive value: what you build, what you supply, how essential you are to the chain that keeps people fed, clothed, and sheltered. Think of Maslow’s hierarchy. Capitalism is the only system that lets individuals climb that pyramid on their own terms — meet your basic needs, then pursue growth, mastery, purpose. Socialism locks most people at the bottom while insiders skip to the top. One system rewards proximity to power. The other rewards contribution to society. I'll take the imperfect version of the second one every time.

I've been thinking about this all morning and I can't shake it. Neuralink just put chips in 21 people's brains. These people are moving cursors, typing, playing games, all with their thoughts.. by Just thinking. AI agents are coding apps, booking flights, writing contracts, managing entire businesses. Everyone talks about these separately. Nobody's thinking about what happens when they merge. Because right now the only thing standing between you and an AI that does everything… is typing. That's it. You still gotta type the prompt. Neuralink removes that. You wake up. You think "schedule my week." Done. You think "build me that app." It's shipping by lunch. You think "find me a house in Lisbon under 300k." Three options before your coffee's ready. Just a thought and it's done. And before you say "that's sci-fi" both technologies already exist. Separately. The chip works. The agents work. The only thing missing is plugging one into the other. The smartphone made the internet portable. AI agents made expertise free. Neuralink makes the interface disappear. I don't think people realize how close this is.
