@phillippaonline They are not particularly romantic names, I much prefered Egmont to Taranaki which is hard sounding. Ofcourse romance languages are lovely but Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo so we have English that is both international and hugely rich.

Capital idea. It's Aotearoa to me. The logic is very simple: "New Zealand" is a Dutch name - but it's an easily observable, objective FACT that as a nation we are more culturally Māori than Dutch. So why use a Dutch name? Are we to start wearing clogs, too? #nzpol #nzpolitics
