This book represents the culmination of years of work. It brings together all aquatic algae, mosses, bryophytes and higher plants. I hope that it will represent a worthwhile resource to be used and enjoyed by botanists, scientists and the public in general. -Prof Joe Caffrey

Great to open the International Day of Plant Health 2024 Conference overlooking a busy Dublin Port. As an open economy, we are at risk from pests & diseases - @agriculture_ie is responsible for ensuring our risk is minimised, and that we act quickly when an outbreak occurs. #SDGs

Tonight on "Mooney Goes Wild" (RTE Radio One at 10pm) I take a stroll along the Tolka river and chat with Prof. Joe Caffrey about his new book: Aquatic Plants in Ireland, a Photographic Guide. An excellent companion to have on a river or canal walk. @NatureRTE #Rivers

Following extensive engagement with Scottish Forestry concerning the certification of coniferous roundwood (spruce) from the Pest Free Area (PFA) significant new measures are being introduced to provide additional protection for Irish forests. 👉gov.ie/en/press-relea…

Was great to work with Joe and Ronan and the other contributors on this book (I'm responsible for the bryophyte section). It was a very professional team and is going to be a fabulous resource for botanists and ecologists.

Importing native trees brings unnecessary biosecurity risks. Have we learned nothing from chalara ash dieback? Hawthorn is easy to propagate. If numbers are not available now, we should be waiting for nurseries to catch up. @noonan_malcolm @pippa_hackett agriland.ie/farming-news/o…
