What makes this situation even more disturbing to me is not only that Russia is deliberately and systematically destroying Ukrainian power plants and critical infrastructure, terrorizing civilians, but what I see when I read comments in Russian public spaces. So many ordinary Russians are not outraged by this at all. Instead, they complain that it’s not enough, that Russia should hit Ukraine even harder, that “khokhols must all die”, that Ukraine “brought this war on itself.” And what really gets to me is that these are real people. You look at their profiles and see photos with their children. And I can’t stop wondering how they live with these thoughts, how they’re not afraid of what they believe.
