I’ve known Jonathan Le Tocq @letocq for many years. Like others, I was shocked by the recent news. But I believe in due process and I believe in not abandoning people when they are at their most isolated. I don’t know the facts of the case, and I’m not here to defend or excuse anything. What I do know is that decades of public service shouldn’t be erased overnight by an allegation. Until and unless the facts say otherwise, I will not treat suspicion as guilt. Guernsey is a small community. If we start deserting each other at the first sign of trouble, we risk losing something deeper than trust in institutions we risk losing trust in one another. I’m not getting involved. I'm not defending any wrong doings. But I’m not rushing to judgment. And I’m not rushing away.

Who Will Really Run Guernsey Now? The new Assembly has been elected. Now comes the real power play, deciding who leads the committees that run the island. This time we have a very different mix. 18 returning members. 20 new faces. 2 Alderney reps who do not vote on most matters. The 18 incumbents may see themselves as the senior team and expect to take the presidencies. But the 20 newly elected deputies are only one vote short of a majority. If they choose to act together, they could shape the direction of this government. So here is the question. Should all the committee presidents be drawn from the experienced incumbents, or should there be a mix of old and new? Should the 20 newbies organise themselves to make sure fresh thinking gets a proper say? If the island voted for change, should that be reflected in who leads?

Congratulations to those that stood and were successful. The hard work starts here. And commiserations to those who stood and weren’t successful. Enjoy a rest now. You all have my utmost respect, few put themselves forward to be counted. You all did 🙌 #Guernseyelection
