Yesterday marked a powerful step forward in Uganda’s journey toward life-saving, advanced healthcare. The Katikiro of Buganda, Owek. @cpmayiga, officially launched a dedicated fundraising link to support the establishment of Uganda’s first-ever Bone Marrow Transplant Centre a transformative milestone for our nation. "For years, Sickle Cell Disease has burdened many families, often surrounded by myths and misunderstanding. Today, we are guided by science and innovation. With advancements like bone marrow transplantation, we now have real hope - hope to save lives, restore health, and give families a second chance" he said. As the Joint Clinical Research Centre, we are proud to stand alongside the @KlaSpringers and @Pearlbankug in driving this bold and life-changing initiative. In yesterday’s @newvisionwire, we once again emphasized the urgent need for Uganda to have a fully functional Bone Marrow Transplant Centre. Every year, many Ugandan patients battling life-threatening blood disorders such as aplastic anaemia, sickle cell disease, and certain cancers are forced to seek treatment abroad an option that is often costly, inaccessible, and emotionally draining for families. At the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC), we believe that lifesaving care should be available closer to home. Establishing a functional Bone Marrow Transplant Centre in Uganda will not only save lives but also strengthen our national health system, reduce the financial burden on families, and give hope to countless patients who deserve a fighting chance.
