Also, a lot of the participants were either Anglos or Italian. Many of the secondary sources that I read about McLuhan are Italian. What gives?

I was one of the youngest in the room, but it felt gratifying to hear allusions to things that may seem esoteric if one hasn't read Marshall's work, as well as Eric's works too!

@s_r_tarnmoor @zermatist I asked him if there was a pdf version that I could get access to. He said that he had already signed a contract with the publisher (or something to that effect), so he can't give it out lol

@zermatist @LackOfView I hear that if you email the author they'll often just send you a pdf for free. Never tried it but sounds plausible

Just came back from this event. Quite enjoyable, the highlight was meeting a very eccentric elderly lady who participated in McLuhan's Monday Night Seminars and apparently brought McLuhan's percepts into her Near East and biblical archeology studies.

Pound's Theosophical friends, Mead as well as Allen Upward, describe the soul's passage from the earthly to the spiritual realm in just such a way, as a passage through a vortex or "whirl-swirl"

[Ezra] Pound's heavily marked copy of *The New Word* is in the archive of the Humanities Research Center at Austin, Texas. Among the passages he has marked is the following on the "whirl-swirl" - the vortex, or funnel that is reported in many mystic visions of the other world.
