@TheFP Almost no one in my circle had any trouble at all getting pregnant in early 30s, or even mid-late 30s. The only one I know, had been trying since mid 20s with no success. It is a crapshoot and isn't fair, but I have a hard time believing there is an epidemic of sterile 33yr olds.

I’m an IVF Doctor. Business Is Booming Because Ob-Gyns Aren’t Doing Their Jobs. Just last Monday, a woman sat across from me in my office and asked a question I have come to dread. Why had no one told her? She is 33, a therapist, married three years, and she has been to her gynecologist every year since high school. She was also on the brink of perimenopause. She had assumed that when she was ready, her body would be too. No one in two decades of annual visits had ever explained that the most consequential decisions about her capacity to bear children were being made by her ovaries on a calendar she could not see, while her doctor took her blood pressure and refilled her birth control. She is the patient I see several times a month. She is the most preventable tragedy in American medicine. thefp.com/p/im-an-ivf-do…

You're 17 weeks pregnant when your water breaks. Your OB says you can wait until you get sick enough for a hospital lawyer to allow them to perform an abortion to save your life or you can drive *yourself* out of state for basic healthcare... Because you're in pro-life Arkansas

FYI, the government paying influencers $8 million to push pro-ICE propaganda online, is what “paid professional outside agitators” actually looks like.

People asking why they would leak this video when it clearly shows the officer murdering her. It’s for this reason. So you can see she’s gay. So you can hear her condescend to the officer. It’s for their side, so they can reassure them that she was one of “them,” not us.
Matt Walsh@MattWalshBlog

Left: Renee’s butch “wife” standing in the street, taunting ICE agents, and daring them to “come at us” Right: Renee grinning and looking at the officer right before driving directly into him The media lied about every aspect of this case. Again. Enemies of the people.

Samuel Alito flew two flags used by insurrectionists. Clarence Thomas' wife plotted to overturn the 2020 election. Both justices refused to recuse themselves from SCOTUS cases related to the January 6th plot. It's a stain on our nation that this has effectively been forgotten.

@sappholives83 I had endometrial biopsy today- with anesthesia. I refused to do it otherwise. It is insane that this is not the standard. It is standard for colonoscopy, which takes about the same amount of time and does not involve punching a hole in an organ.

I have endometriosis, and I’ve been stabbed. This procedure was still the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced, and I ached for days afterwards. Performing a cervical biopsy with no pain management should cost a doctor his license to practice.

Enough is enough. I was with Zohran on September 11th 2001. We were 9 years old at school in Morningside Heights. By 9:30AM we realized something was really wrong, because the teachers looked scared and they had paused classes. They had us call our parents to come pick us up. I remember looking at Zohran on his dinky Nokia phone with his dad, as I was on with mine. We both had the same look on our faces because we were realizing our dads were also scared. We were wide-eyed, frightened kids who didn't know the world was changing around us in that moment. We could hear fighter jets flying low over the Hudson. I went home and got under the covers in my parents' bed. I bet Zohran did the same. The jets kept flying overhead as I watched the towers burn on TV, then collapse. The memory of that day is indelible, as it is for every New Yorker. You can say whatever you want about Zohran and his politics. I have, both good and bad. But the sickening weaponization of September 11th against Zohran, who was just another scared kid on that day, isn't just beyond the pale. It's a betrayal of every child and adult who spent that day dizzy with fear and confusion. No apology or retraction is sufficient.

With Dire Picture of a Mamdani Mayoralty, Cuomo Plays to Voters’ Fears On Thurs, he urged Sid Rosenberg to “imagine Mamdani in that seat,” if there's another Sept 11. “Yeah, I could. He’d be cheering,” he said. Cuomo laughed. “That’s another problem" nytimes.com/2025/10/23/nyr…

when I first heard William & Mary described as "the alma mater of the nation" I laughed, but now when I'm feeling bad I remind myself that I'm a professor at "the alma mater of the nation." Thomas Jefferson is an alumni. my office is in an old, haunted building. it's f-ing cool!

@witty_genstein I do not understand the panic about starting baby-making before 30. Among my cohort, most everyone had their kids between 30 and 35 (33 really), often a 2nd or even 3rd child not long after. Similar SES, maybe a little less wealthy/ more creatives. NYC, GenX and Xennials.

I do not believe the fertility crisis is, at its core, about economic factors. Out of my 20 or so closest friends from Harvard, only two of us have kids at 30. These are all people in top 1-5% of income for their age bracket, extremely privileged wrt job security. They aren’t having kids, and it’s not because they are worried they can’t afford them. They are simply doing other things. They are traveling Europe, or flying to Vegas to see concerts, or focusing on their careers/personal interests/hobbies. They have too much they want to do “before kids”, so they are waiting. A lot of people in my peer group stuck in a kind of statis, trying to extend their 20s infinitely. “Millennials think they are still teenagers,” as Logo puts it. So I see the fertility crisis as more of a spiritual issue. People lack the desire to start families. And why would they when way, way more cultural weight is placed on things like personal growth and career achievement and “having fun”. It’s not high status to be a parent, in the way becoming a founder or a doctor or earning a PhD is. Economic uncertainty has always and will always exist. That’s not going to be what raises fertility rates. Fertility rates will go up when raising children becomes the default first priority, not a second or third priority that you “get to” after a bunch of personal achievements. This requires a fundamentally different cultural narrative that reorients people around a project that is bigger than themselves.
Lei Gong@gonglei89

Fertility crisis is not that mysterious. Everywhere in the world young adults are uncertain they can maintain a job and decent lifestyles long term as they’re constantly reminded their livelihood is provisional to the market and finance, and you expect them to think about kids?

@madisontayt_ Hard same, not sure of your age (not asking!) but I'm young Gen X. My default state was single for most of my youth, with flings and occasional rejection here and there. The pressure to let yourself be chased and won was no joke. I'm now married 20 years but still annoyed lol

@ThomasB238 @gumbyadroit It infuriates me to see people treat cats as disposable, or temporary, or "until we get a dog" or "until we have a baby." Or they get a dog and the cat is relegated to some back room, gets no affection, develops behavior issues, gets surrendered or abandoned. People are garbage.

@_nomadic_soul I'm old enough to have seen this antifeminist "panic" (backlash) 2x before: once in the 80s, & again in the early 2000s (ie that Atlantic article encouraging women to settle). Most of my friends, including me, are longtime married/partnered. Curious to see these fools in 10 yrs.

@sensorystories_ I'm ADHD. My thoughts on Excel are pretty neutral. I have to use it for work so I know my way around it. What I hate is when it's used in ways where a Word table would do better, or when people expect you can print out a legible copy of a sheet with 50 columns and 1000 rows.

I have a random hypothesis and would love to run a VERY unscientific poll out of sheer curiosity 😆... Excel (the computer program)... Autistic people LOVE it... ADHDers can't stand it. Let me know where you fall if you're one, the other, or both 😆

@sophrossbrooks Wow what a bitch. FWIW I easily got pregnant at 32 and 36 (like, within the first month of trying). OTOH a family friend who married younger and wanted to be a mom from a young age, had problems. It's random & not fair. You can get tested, but I wouldn't worry at 30. Congrats!
