Heads up: Microsoft Office, like many companies in recent months, has slyly turned on an “opt-out” feature that scrapes your Word and Excel documents to train its internal AI systems. This setting is turned on by default, and you have to manually uncheck a box in order to opt out. If you are a writer who uses MS Word to write any proprietary content (blog posts, novels, or any work you intend to protect with copyright and/or sell), you’re going to want to turn this feature off immediately.

@Nils_Reimers @CharlotteHase Strange that more SIGIR papers aren't open access, considering the funding mandates. I published there last year and our funding agencies covered the open access fee. (I wouldn't have agreed to submit to SIGIR otherwise.)

@CharlotteHase Issue with SIGIR: Papers aren't open access, at least the ones I have seen on ACM. Sadly quite many of the papers aren't on arxiv. If they aren't openly available, I don't cite them. If they are on arxiv, I cite the arxiv version.

It surprises me how many submission in NLP conferences focus on IR/RecSys tasks but manage to not cite a single RecSys/SIGIR/WSDM paper. Don't they know "we" exist?
