And people weren't bored becuase they farmed all day, not because "life was lived in the open world". You're just describing a rich British explorer in the 1800s.

There was a time when boredom scarcely troubled the spirit of our people, for life was lived in the open world and not behind the pale glow of a screen. We were not instructed how to think or live by distant voices seeking influence over the many. Instead, we moved with a freedom of mind and character, unburdened by the silent machinery that now so often guides the habits and opinions of our age.

People who grew up without smartphones. What did you do when you were bored???

@lady_valor_07 Built Lego. Wrote stories. Read books. Drew sketches. Occasionally some video games. I still do most of those things!

@shawnsnyder @phantascene @JayzTwoCents I see. That is valid. People will always lie about their age on the internet and kids will probably be dumb enough to think they can trick the age detection system.

@Masonzero @phantascene @JayzTwoCents You said, "Deny the age verification." That exactly my point - they're asking children (and adults) for selfies. Kids are unlikely to hit no, unless a parent has prepared them, and even then, are enticed to hit yes.

So now that Discord basically shot an RPG at its own face, what is everyone going to move to now? If Discord backtracks and drops age verification will you stay or go anyway? What's the census?

@RotangAU @JayzTwoCents You're using their platform. If you thought your messages were private you're a special kind of naive. Is someone literally reading them? Probably not. But they are being processed by a computer at a minimum. They literally have to be stored on their servers, after all.

@JayzTwoCents Already kicked off in Australia in December. What is concerning is I was never age checked. It guessed my age from my messages and account age. So they are watching what you post.

@JayzTwoCents Considering your only limitations are not being allowed in NSFW channels and getting DMs from strangers, I am simply going to keep using Discord without submitting age verification. It's annoying, yes, but my usage of the app basically doesn't change if it puts me in Teen Mode.

@BoomRazzle It's super funny because I can't even name 5 extraction shooters. It's actually the least saturated genre. Would they prefer another hero arena shooter or battle royale??

Extraction Shooter hate is so bizarre to me, it has to be collateral damage from the absolute Battle Royale mania that happened around Covid.

After all, the cost to the viewer is minimal. And you say it only after providing value, so viewers are feeling more positive about you.

@InfiniTokens I saw some videos from Sean Plott on a youtube show called Spellslingers! Then a bought a single intro deck and split it into two so I could play each half against each other. Then I just stayed going to an LGS to draft.

How did you first learn Magic? Would you recommend the same for others? I learned with Pauper/Standard, then commander 1v1, then full commander. It worked well for me.

@BustaSnutt Oh, mine are BAD. I will actually be burned. Nintendo games (especially Zelda) are overrated. The older the game, the more true this is. Speedrunning strats that exploit the game in a way no human would normally play are dumb. 100+ hour open-world games are actually fantastic.

Just rewatched Edward Scissorhands for the first time since I was a kid and damn it holds up. What a simple but fantastic movie.

I dug out an old card game that I designed when I was like 12 years old, and was trying to decipher it. In true Mason fashion, I had created a rules guide. But also in true Mason fashion, I was so focused on the mechanics that I never wrote down what the goal of the game is...
