Pleasure to welcome an @AfDB_group delegation led by Ms Roza Mamuye Bora, Principal Statistician at AfDB, who are at the IGAD Secretariat for a four day appraisal mission aimed at enhancing socio economic statistics across the IGAD region. Good statistics is essential for evidence-based decision making by policy makers and other stakeholders. We look forward to this critical collaboration with the African Development Bank.

À la suite de l’élection présidentielle du 10 avril 2026, les missions d’observation électorale de l’Union africaine (UA) et de l’Autorité intergouvernementale pour le développement (IGAD) ont tenu ce dimanche 12 avril 2026, une conférence de presse conjointe au Djibouti Palace Kempinski. Les deux missions ont souligné que l'élection Présidentielle du 10 avril 2026 à Djibouti était libre, équitable et crédible. Les deux missions d'observation ont communément déclaré que le processus électoral s'est déroulé de manière pacifique et ordonné , conditions indispensables à l'expression démocratique et témoignant ainsi la volonté souveraine du peuple djiboutien de consolider les acquis démocratiques et de préserver la paix et la stabilité.#MAECIDJIBOUTI

The #IGAD and #AfricanUnion Election Observation Missions have successfully concluded their assignments for the 10 April 2026 Presidential Election in Djibouti. The IGAD mission was led by H.E. Dr. Mulatu Teshome, former President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and Head of IGAD’s Election Observation Mission, deputised by Director Calmus Omogo of IGAD’s Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN). The African Union mission was led by H.E. Bernard Makuza, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Rwanda. The two organisations released their preliminary report yesterday in Djibouti. Congratulations to my sister, Anita Kiki Gbeho for her appointment by Secretary-General António Guterres as his new Special Representative for South Sudan and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). Kiki served with dedication as a Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General in Somalia during a particularly difficult time, and I was privileged to work with her and her team as President of HirShabelle State. Her empathy, professionalism and dedication will serve the people of South Sudan well! I wish her the best in her new role.

Djibouti Elections 2026 IGAD’s Election Observation Mission, led by H.E. Mulatu Teshome, former President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and joined by the IGAD Deputy Executive Secretary, H.E. @MawareSo, intensified preparations for Djibouti’s 2026 Presidential Election. The Mission held consultations with the Committee of Ambassadors at the IGAD Secretariat, engaged with the African Union Election Observation Mission, met with Djiboutian Civil Society Organizations, and held discussions with CENI Djibouti. These efforts were complemented by training sessions for observers ahead of election day.
