I love the effort our pupils put into their class Reading Scrapbooks. The reading-related conversations they lead to are fantastic, with lots of intertextual links, peer recommendations and debate about favourite characters.

Quality first teaching is at the heart of this so every student feels empowered to thrive. Good teaching for students with SEND is good teaching for all and that additional interventions cannot be at the detriment of access to consistent good quality everyday teaching. @adamboxer1 It is of course very school dependent. Saying that, I agreed with the parent in many ways. However, I always see part of the primary job is to not squash that enthusiasm you mentioned while over time getting the children trained up for the next stage. It’s a tricky balancing act!

Why are poor behaviours more prevalent in primary classrooms? There are some theories below, interested in hearing yours too. To be clear, I don't think all of these theories are correct. Theory 1: students are younger, generally a bit less socially aware, generally do weirder things (of course, those things are still *disruptive* and the primary teachers in the poll are clearly calling them disruptive, they don't think these behaviours are "ok") Theory 2: a lot of these disruptions stem from "sins of enthusiasm" (Lemov). Primary teachers are less grumpy than secondary teachers, and don't want to squash that enthusiasm Theory 3: the stakes are lower. A student inappropriately calling out in primary might be trying to provide an answer, whereas in secondary they might be saying "are you dumb" to a peer. This will then end up in widespread disruption and significant problems. Secondary teachers therefore work harder to stop the problems earlier. Theory 4: primary teachers are worse at behaviour management than secondary ones Theory 5: primary schools have less robust behaviour policies than secondary ones TO BE VERY CLEAR: I do not think all of these theories are correct. But they are plausible interpretations.

@adamboxer1 Is there also an argument that parents can access the primary teacher much more easily and question how the teacher treats their child. The result being less effective behaviour management?
