Having a Covid (Moderna) jab this morning, I decided to relax a little afterwards and have a coffee al fresco in the centre of Lichfield. Loads of people saying ‘hello’ as I drank my coffee with a number coming up to me to express their astonishment (if not loathing) for our PM. The sense of betrayal and outrage felt by the man and woman in the street (literally) is extraordinary. I suppose it’s the difference between a party winning by default (and cocking up badly) and a party winning through the desire of the electorate.

I do not accept the claim that Keir Starmer is a liar. He is not. I have known him to be serious, measured, and guided by a strong sense of public duty. We must challenge one another robustly on policy, but do it in a way that strengthens public confidence not erode it

As someone who has been through and passed Developed Vetting, I can assure you that it is an incredibly rigorous (and expensive) process. The professionals involved in our vetting work to the highest standards. Rightly so. It is absolutely fundamental to our national security. Overrule or ignore it because of cronyism and the whole system comes crashing down.
