If you were to put DELTARUNE on a scale of Visual Novel to RPG, it would be closer to a visual novel.
I want LESS Castle Town characters with unique dialogue and MORE QUIRKY MECHANICS.

I think that Deltarune's biggest flaw is its lack of commitment toward gameplay mechanics and smaller aspects of the narrative target mechanic abandoned, item fusion abandoned, castle town dojo neglected, not enough special ACTs, no new character skills/spells, no chapter parity

@Vladilima1001 @apple_wizardess I 100% agree with you. Feels like a missed opportunity to mix strategy seen in other rpgs with Undertale's bullet hell style game play.

@apple_wizardess Whereas Deltarune requires you to spend multiple attempts on boss fights, sometimes taking multiple hours for first time players. Just because a game doesn’t have strategic gameplay doesn’t make it a visual novel. By that logic, FPS games are visual novels.

@apple_wizardess This doesn’t disprove my point at all. Deltarune is very simplistic and could use more depth, but comparing it to a visual novel is nonsensical. Simple gameplay doesn’t mean lack of gameplay. Visual novel implies ur just sitting there reading text and watching cutscenes.

Undertale is a game where the player has limitless freedom whereas Deltarune is a game where the player has a lack of freedom. Frisk rebelling like Kris does would harm the meta-narrative of Undertale.

@utdrtakes In Undertale, human souls are described as what contains determination/will. We control the soul, which controls Frisk. I think we aren't Frisk themselves, but we are Frisk's determination. Frisk's personality is separate from us, but our desires are their desires.

@skirkifly @MrRuby_ @PhilipBostic2 @OhhaiC @8thFall3n That's pretty interesting. I wish it was touched on more in game. Chara in general felt like their story and presence was too subtle. Player-Frisk-Chara would be a cool thing for the game to explore more. If Toby ever comes back to Undertale for Hard Mode or something.
