CERN welcomes the President of the French Republic @EmmanuelMacron and the President of the Swiss Confederation @alain_berset for an official visit from our host states to the Laboratory. They were welcomed by CERN’s Director-General Fabiola Gianotti. Here are some of yesterday’s highlights. “If I came here today, it is to reiterate my confidence in the scientific community and our ambition to maintain our leadership in this domain [particle physics],” says French President Emmanuel Macron (translated). Original: « Si j’ai voulu venir là aujourd’hui, c’est pour témoigner ma confiance aux équipes et notre volonté, notre ambition, de conserver la première place dans ce domaine [physique de particules]. »

The first heavy-ion run of #LHCRun3 has ended. The last lead-ion beams were dumped today at 3:54 am CET, marking the start of the year-end-technical-stop (YETS) for the entire CERN accelerator complex. Curious to know more? Stay tuned to find out the answer to your questions.

In a paper published today in @Nature, the ALPHA collaboration at CERN’s Antimatter Factory shows that, within the precision of their experiment, atoms of antihydrogen – a positron orbiting an antiproton – fall to Earth in the same way as their matter equivalents.
