🗓️ Also on 14 April, a discussion was held in Vilnius on the future of regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea under conditions of growing geopolitical tensions. 💬 The discussion focused, among other things, on the security of energy infrastructure, shipping, countering the activities of the clunker fleet (the so-called shadow fleet), and the protection of the Baltic Sea environment in cooperation with the @HELCOMInfo.

On April 13 in Kaunas, as part of the 🇵🇱 Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, the Vytautas Magnus University hosted a screening of Ewa Galica’s documentary film “Shadow Fleet”, followed by a discussion on Baltic Sea security and the protection of maritime infrastructure. Tymon Pastucha, an analyst at @PISM_Poland, emphasized that EU and Western sanctions imposed on Russia, including those targeting the clunker fleet (the so-called “shadow fleet”), are becoming increasingly effective. They are reducing Russia’s revenues and raising the cost of its war against 🇺🇦.

Józef Poniatowski - a Polish prince and commander who, during the Napoleonic era, tied his fate to France. As the only Pole to ever become a Marshal of France, he became a symbol of the shared history and military brotherhood between the two nations. Today, this dimension of cooperation is further strengthened by the Treaty of Nancy. Poland and France have reaffirmed their commitment to assume greater responsibility for the security of Europe and its neighborhood, including by reinforcing the European pillar of NATO. The Treaty also provides for mutual assistance in the event of a threat, collaboration in defense industries, strategic planning, and preparation for crisis situations. The Treaty of Nancy marks the beginning of a new chapter in Polish-French relations. Signed on May 9, 2025, the document strengthens 🇵🇱🇫🇷 cooperation and designates April 20 as Polish-French Friendship Day. It symbolizes the enduring ties between our societies and our shared vision for the future - a secure, strong, and competitive Europe. The choice of Nancy as the location for the signing is also highly significant. Nacionalinė lenkų, gelbėjusių žydus vokiečių okupacijos metu, atminimo diena reiškiame pagarbą tiems, kurie neliko abejingi. Tarp jų buvo ir „Ładosio grupės“ lenkų diplomatai Berne. Jų pastangų dėka žydai gavo Pietų Amerikos šalių pasus, kurie išgelbėjo daugelio jų gyvybes.

On the National Day of Remembrance of Poles who saved Jews under German occupation, we pay tribute to those who, in times of contempt, terror, and death, did not remain indifferent. Among them were Polish diplomats from the Ładoś Group. In Bern, far from their occupied homeland but close to human tragedy, they carried out a passport operation that gave Jews a chance to survive. Aleksander Ładoś, Konstanty Rokicki, Abraham Silberschein, Chaim Eiss, Stefan Ryniewicz, and Juliusz Kühl saved Jews from the Holocaust by forging documents and restoring hope for survival. We remember. Those whose names are known, and those who remain unnamed. The victims of German crimes, and those who had the courage to save others despite the risk of death.
