It was a point that was constantly brought up in the original series that Roku took till he was middle aged to master every element, and that for pretty much every Avatar it was supposed to be a lifelong process to learn everything. Neither Korra nor Aang actually mastered all of them, but it was always supposed to be a situation where the Avatar learns their home bending style first and then branches out.
English

This scene is a good example of my issue with metalbending in Korra. In the original series, Toph had to be in physical contact with the metal, because it was much harder to bend than actual earth, because she was bending the impurities within it.
Meanwhile, the metal bending in Korra is basically the opposite, they actually bend with far more precision than anyone bends earth with, which doesn't make any sense.
It's kinda in the same vein as the lavabending, where instead of applying any actual logic to it, they treated the bending as pure sorcery. Korra doesn't learn it from anyone, she just has it, because she has more Bending Midiclorians than everyone else, I guess.

@kataangerine U don’t understand the critics at all, katara forbid bloodbending and wasn’t on the trial of a bloodbender? In painted lady you see she cannot just stand by and do nothing. Where is she remembered in republic city? Even pregnant Katara would not stop, that’s her character
English

@estrogenyum @azulabetter There’s this ep where azula cant even bend inside a cave and she still plays with the gaang

@azulabetter Realistically toph let her ass get away if toph had locked in shed be 20 feet underground

@OfficialTresure We don't know much about ozai's baselind power (other than beating child Zuko). Only time we saw him actually fight he was powered by the comer.

Treasure ✰@OfficialTresure
Ozai Vs kuvira who would win in a fight?

Mason@Maxpain144
Kuvira was so dedicated to aura farming that she used metal bending to split the bolder in half instead of just earth bending it 😭🔥

@_Dracoleon_ @Qliphoth2002 @DanHarmone He also trust in the wrong ppl and flooded an entire town, even though they saved them the ppl had nothing left
Korra trust in her uncle bcs tenzin and her father were keeping things from her, she chose to leave the portals open and it gave airbending to the world once again
English

@Qliphoth2002 @DanHarmone Sorry you didn’t notice it watching the show. Go watch it again. If you can find the exact moment in season 2 Korra starts to make her own messes for the rest of the series you get a cookie
English

This argument only works if you ignore what Korra actually went through. Saying she had peace, mentors, and resources is technically true but completely misleading. Korra was raised in isolation, overprotected, and trained in a controlled environment that actively stunted her growth as an Avatar. She had bending teachers, not real-world experience, which is why she struggles when she finally faces actual political, spiritual, and ideological conflicts.
And ‘peace’ doesn’t mean ‘easy.’ Korra didn’t inherit a war, she inherited a world full of systemic problems: inequality (Amon), spiritual imbalance (Unalaq), anarchism (Zaheer), and authoritarian expansion (Kuvira). These are far more complex than a single enemy nation, they’re ideological conflicts with no simple solution.
Also, she didn’t ‘make things harder,’ she made decisions under uncertainty without the safety net of past Avatars after Harmonic Convergence. Unlike Aang, she couldn’t rely on accumulated wisdom. Every mistake she makes is part of her learning curve in a world that doesn’t have clear answers.
Reducing all of that to ‘she had it easy and messed up anyway’ ignores her trauma, her growth, and the complexity of the problems she faced. It’s not analysis, it’s just flattening the character.

Korra had mentors, resources, and peace… and still made things harder than they needed to be 🙂↔️
English

@_Dracoleon_ @Qliphoth2002 @DanHarmone Aang chose to run and let the world without the avatar for 100? Bcs that’s what u saying korra did.
But he def choose to fool around the whole series, calling the fire nation attention and destroying entire villages and made the locals sacrifice themselves for him
English

@teapeachrose @DanHarmone Yeah bcs her enemies are waiting patiently while she gets ready
English

@DanHarmone Maybe all of these can be prevented if korra listen to order of white lotus that she’s not ready.

@swan2swan87 @Maxpain144 That was just the south tribe, the north one is still standing

They wiped them all out and bottled up the rest.

@star_boy_80 Korra bended the elements. She was not a master. Aang was a recognized airbending master at the age of 12. These are not the same things.
