Focus on GRADES, not extra curriculars. The only potential exception is law review/journal.

the associate representative role is great training for the concept that any/all firm administrative roles should only be taken on upon duress, and even then think thrice before you do it. billable work is great, administrative work is not. especially if it takes you away from billable work, it will diminish your standing. avoid all committees, all titles (as many of you remind me on here).

I finally did it, I picked up the backpack of someone taking up two seats on a standing room only train, handed it to them and said “you can hold this so someone can sit, thank you.” A woman immediately sat. I will absolutely keep doing this

@megswfries I’ve worked at two top-10 firms. CapM is where we’d sent the associates who couldn’t do anything else so, maybe their brains don’t work the same as other lawyers.

Have a few friends who have been restructuring and bankruptcy lawyers at Kirkland for a few years now
I never thought it was possible, but they legitimately have worse hours and work life balance than investment bankers
Talking around the clock work past midnights, weekends, and holidays. Very little room for personal life
At some point, the money is not even worth it anymore
