A man who was beaten, chased, and later handed over to police during a recent anti-foreigner march in KwaZulu-Natal has been confirmed to be a legal South African citizen, despite being accused by participants of being a foreigner. According to his account, he had joined the march believing he was supporting his country, but was instead targeted by the crowd because of his dark complexion and his inability to speak isiZulu. He said he was attacked by the same group he had marched with before being handed over to authorities. Speaking after the incident, the man described feeling deeply hurt by what had happened and said he hopes his children will not have to face similar discrimination in their own country.

@RealCeeya @MmusiMaimane @SAPoliceService I like how you believe that people power and riots still work. Current governments are immune to marches and protests, instead lives are lost and they dont care. Lobby modern ways to curb illegal immigration, not vigilantesim, you will regret

They must be arrested @SAPoliceService we cannot have self appointed people checking documents and beating people up. Two wrongs do not make a right, if that man is using fraudulent documents, he must be reported to the police. They will make the determination with @HomeAffairsSA

My sincere apologies in advance to Tsonga/Shangaan-speaking workers whose nationality is being abused in the video. This moment reinforces the need to strengthen our resolve and uphold our principles against mob justice, street justice, regionalism, and xenophobia

@the_judges85 @MmusiMaimane @SAPoliceService Lawlessness is when people enter our country without valid permits. If our government fails to enforce the law, we will. Tell those who come to South Africa illegally to avoid breaking the law so that we don’t return to the 1980s.

The thing that baffles me about black South African xenophobia is that minority white South Africans hold the majority of South Africa’s wealth yet their anger and energy is always focused on black foreigners? Someone needs to help me understand this better.

@africatodayMG As South Africans, we truly appreciate your role in helping bring freedom to our country. However, that does not give illegal immigrants the right to do as they please here. If you do not respect our laws, we as citizens will take action. Thank you... 🙏

During the dark days of apartheid, Tanzania stood firmly with South Africa, Under Julius Nverere. it hosted ANC and PAC offices in Dar es Salaam Tanzania provided military training camps and land for the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College It lobbied the world for sanctions and sacrificed economically as a Frontline State This Pan-African solidarity helped bring freedom to South Africa in 1994
