When the Somali regime, led by Siad Barre, committed a massacre against the people of Somaliland, the world was silent. But Israel was not silent. In 1990, Israel’s then-ambassador to the UN, Yohanan Bein, sent a letter to the UN Security Council warning about the massacre committed by Somalia in the city of Hargeisa. Even when it was inconvenient and diplomatically costly, Israel chose what was right. That is what moral leadership looks like.

I shake my head at number of #Somalia supporters who focus their energy on tearing down #Somaliland instead of building up Somalia. Like the two Russian farmers - one of whom gets a cow; the other- instead of praying for a cow, prays that his neighbor's cow dies. Makes no sense!
People often get angry when they hear the term "Hargeisa Project" because they misunderstand what it means. The term "Hargeisa Project" does not refer to the city of Hargeisa itself. It is a reference to the Government of Somaliland and the central state institutions based in Hargeisa. In this context, "Hargeisa Project" means the Somaliland government, not the city or its residents. #Somaliland
