BREAKING: New group text message revealed from Matt McCabe to Jen McCabe, Brian Albert and Nicole Albert, that was sent after Officer John O’Keefe was found murdered at 34 Fairview: “Yep, if she pleads out, it will end. If she fights it, it will be an episode.” The “she” is referring to Karen Read. That’s all these people wanted when they decided to frame Karen Read. They just wanted her to take it. Take the fall. Plead out and spare them from accountability. #KarenRead #JenMcCabe #FreeKarenRead #KarenReadTrial #KarenReadTrial2 #JusticeForJohnOKeefe

A professional with a #disability has two jobs: The one we get hired and paid for. The other is educating their organization the best way to accommodate, grow, and enable a professional with a disability. The second one we don’t get paid for, it is the tax we pay to do the first.

Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 & replaced it with a restored stream & 1000 acre park in the city’s centre, not only did it transform the city’s public life & economic success, but the traffic got better. The traffic got BETTER.

@LenNorthfield Yes! I talk about this at length as well. SO important especially for things like informed consent, instructions, and making sure tasks are completely accessible for participants who struggle with written language.

Deaf research peeps: I'm working on some ethics professional development for graduate students studying deaf populations as part of my work w/ Gally... What are some ethical considerations you have to make when designing your studies for deaf populations?

@BP_Bryony Right- this is so important and I am going to make a larger emphasis on protecting anonymity and shining a light on “small world syndrome”.. important for research into topics that are more sensitive. Thank you so much for your insight!

@ScienceBeth I'm in the UK but had to consider that the Deaf Community is small - small world syndrom. My biggest challenge - lack of anonymity when responding in BSL. Also finding funding to translate BSL answers.

@jesskorte Wow, I never thought about this before! I can see how giving participants a role in how they are identified can make them feel more comfortable/gives them more ownership over their data they provide

@MrAriyeh Yes! This is so important. I have big emphasis on establishing foundational assumptions, recognizing bias and monitoring how that colors the research process. As well as dissemination plans & specific outlines of how this benefits DHH community & how to get that info to them

I have a few papers & threads (especially from @jahochcam), but I'm still trying to find more examples of considerations made when designing a research study on deaf populations (foundational qqs, study design, equitable materials, etc) Anyone want to share their experiences?

So I have chronic lung inflammation, made worse by my recent bout with COVID. My doctor wants me to use a preventative steroid inhaler. The catch? It’ll cost me $150 a month! On top of my hefty DC rent, and soon nearly 1K monthly student loan payments… I’m at a loss, truly 🫠

When President Clinton banned assault rifles in 1994, mass shootings dropped by 43%. After Republicans let the ban expire in 2004, they increased by 243% — please don’t tell me bans don’t work, because I don’t want to hear it.

When the assault weapons ban was allowed to expire, the number of mass shooting deaths tripled—tripled. We know that the ban works and we need to reinstate it.

French newspaper Le Monde: "If there is any American exceptionalism, it is to tolerate the fact that schools in the United States are regularly transformed into bloody shooting ranges...Indeed, America is killing itself & the Republican Party is looking the other way..."
