what i said earlier honestly looks more likely by the day iran isn’t some clean, centralized actor you can just “defeat” and be done with it it’s a fragmented system with multiple power centers, proxies and militias, layered with ideology which means even if you hit parts of the state it doesn’t just collapse and move on and the bigger point is that this isn’t a war they are trying to quickly exit for them this can easily turn into something close to a holy war dynamic not necessarily for every single citizen but enough in terms of ideological framing and regime survival that they are willing to drag this out for a long time rather than fold so you end up in a situation where escalation is actually rational from their side, because backing down can be more dangerous to the system than continuing the conflict and then you add the next layer with “ground troops”, because the u.s. increasingly looks like it is at least preparing for that scenario and that is where things get really messy since the moment you move from airstrikes to boots on the ground this stops being a contained operation and turns into a prolonged conflict with real consequences you are suddenly dealing with domestic pressure, political division and public opinion shifting fast once casualties start to come in, which historically has always created a lot of inner conflict and instability and economically people massively underestimate this dynamic, because while iran obviously gets hit hard, the global spillover hits the west too through oil, supply chains and inflation and iran knows that dragging this out can hurt the u.s. and the global economy a lot more than people currently want to admit so while the public narrative is still “we’re winning, everything is destroyed and under control”, the actual dynamic looks very different, because this is a conflict against an opponent that doesn’t need a quick win, is structurally hard to break and is willing to turn this into a long, exhausting war and if ground troops actually get involved then it is a clear step deeper into something that becomes harder to control with every move forward trump f'd up
