Based on the ongoing work of the interagency fugitive team on the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF), which the FBI manages with HSI, three men were arrested earlier this month. John Patrick Balase was arrested in Echo Park after HSTF members received information that Balase absconded and was in violation of his parole in connection with a federal conviction in Colorado for receipt of child pornography. Balase was arrested in Echo Park where it appeared he had been living out of his vehicle. Kyle Patrick Alan Mayville, who was in the vehicle with Balase at the time of the arrest, was found to be wanted for three felony warrants in Colorado, to include failure to register as a sex offender; a parole violation; and contempt of court in a child exploitation case. Mayville had been convicted in Thornton, Colorado, where he assaulted and drugged a victim; and in Hudson, Colorado, for the sexual exploitation and assault of a child. In a separate case, William Lawrence Billow was wanted for multiple parole violations after he was convicted federally in an FBI case for possession of child pornography for which he was sentenced to 120 months and 15 years of supervised release. In March, a federal judge issued an arrest warrant for Billow and he was taken into custody in Woodland Hills, California.

KitKat is owned by Nestlé. Nestlé is one of the most unethical companies in the world. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Nestlé wanted to grow its infant formula sales in developing countries, especially in Africa. So they came up with a strategy. They gave free baby formula to new mothers and promoted it as better than mother’s milk. At first, it seemed helpful. But it was not. The free supply lasted just long enough for many mothers to stop producing their own milk. Once it ended, they had no natural option left and had to depend on formula. But many of these mothers were poor. They could not afford to keep buying it. So they tried to stretch it by adding more water and less powder. This led to weak and undernourished babies. It got worse because many of them did not even have clean water or proper conditions to prepare the formula safely. Babies fell sick. Some even died. And Nestlé did not even provide proper instructions. No clear guidance in local languages. No support for mothers who could not read. They knew the risks. They still continued. They only reacted when Western countries protested and boycotted them. Even today, they are not fully ethical. And people still eat KitKat.

Steven Jones, 55, was holding a large knife. Three officers spent over five minutes attempting to de-escalate as he walked into the street. Officer Joseph Magnano, the fourth officer on scene, approached with his gun drawn, warned Jones he would be shot, and fired nine times when Jones continued advancing with the knife. On March 27, 2026, Mayor Arunan Arulampalam terminated Magnano effective immediately, stating the officer’s actions were “deeply concerning” and did not meet professional standards. The Office of the Inspector General’s investigation remains ongoing. The Hartford police union has criticized the firing.
