The web is disappearing 🕳️ According to a Pew Research Center report, 26% of pages from 2013-2023 are no longer accessible. But that’s not the whole story. In a new study published in Internet Archive's book, VANISHING CULTURE, data scientists working with the Wayback Machine have found: 16% have been restored through the Wayback Machine. 56% are preserved before they disappear. Preservation is the remedy for cultural loss. 📚 Read VANISHING CULTURE free from the Internet Archive 📖 Download & read: archive.org/details/vanish… 🛒 Purchase in print: betterworldbooks.com/product/detail… #VanishingCulture #DigitalMemory #InternetArchive #BookTwitter

Isn't trashing the lethality of our service members with lethality the enemy's job?🤨 Where was SecDrnk Kegsbreath to defend MY bodily autonomy when the Navy pulled all of my wisdom teeth during Marine Corps boot camp?
BryanCunningham@denvercunning

@brownecfm @MalcolmNance Replacing empirical, historical evidence with ideological dogma is never a good idea. Check the flu and other infectious disease stats from any prior war. He’s literally trashing the lethality of our soldiers in future wars.

@BulwarkOnline @MarkHertling This is the dumbest thing to get worked up over. It's a flu vaccine. I haven't had one in 25 years. What else haven't I had in 25 years? The flu. When did Democrats abandon "my body, my choice?"

Let me walk you through the events of the war so far: 1. The United States and Israel tried regime change; it didn’t work. Or rather, they got regime change—Iran became an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps–led military dictatorship. That was not an improvement. 2. The U.S. won an overwhelming military victory with air and naval power and scarcely a boot on the ground. But it destroyed less of Iran’s missile- and drone-launching capabilities than at first appeared. 3. Then there was a hostage crisis. Iran took both the Gulfies and the Strait of Hormuz hostage. The result was a massive economic shock for the world that required a rapid resolution. 4. The choice was between 1) military escalation (boots on the ground or strikes on Iranian infrastructure), and 2) a diplomatic deal. Trump chose 2. 5. In Islamabad, the U.S proposed big economic concessions in return for some kind of change in the status of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, as well as the reopening of the strait. Contrary to the president’s social media feed, the Iranians did not accept. 6. In any case, the devil of any deal will be in the details, not the Truth headline. (When the small print finally comes out, every former Obama and Biden official will be ready to tell The New York Times that it’s worse than the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.) 7. Meanwhile, the Iranians have survived regime change and discovered that closing the strait is just as powerful a lever in economic warfare as they had always hoped. It’s not, despite the Russian quip, an “economic nuke,” because unlike a nuclear weapon you can use it. 8. Where we go from here is fairly predictable. I would be surprised if Trump now deploys ground forces. There will be more negotiation, so Islamabad, here we come. There may have to be more bombing, if the Iranians dust down the North Vietnamese playbook of stringing the U.S. negotiators along. And the final compromise will take longer to be agreed upon than Mr. Market currently believes. The consensus in prediction markets is this will be over by the end of May, but remember: It took Henry Kissinger more than four months to get the 1973–1974 oil embargo lifted.

Trump has betrayed an endless line local heros who dared risk torture and death to help us prosecute our global wars. I get the Mango Mousilini not getting it... But Vance and Hegseth? Why aren't they speaking out? They worked with civilian locals. Especially Hegseth who coordinated directly with city and village leaders. Complete moral collapse. 🤬

Let me be clear: this SICKENS me. I spent YEARS writing letters to get my interpreters in America because they SAVED OUR LIVES. One of my interpreters was a 15 year old kid. One day, we were working with the Afghan police and he went stone quiet. After we left, I asked him what was wrong. He told me that the Afghan police had just threatened to cut his lips off for helping us. He was FIFTEEN. And he risked EVERYTHING for our soldiers.

Listen carefully. YOU. ARE. NOT. DONALD. TRUMP. He doesn't know you exist and if he did, he wouldn't care. You'd smile more if you just cared about making something of yourself instead of twisting yourself into an orange MAGAnon pretzel, spending your life justifying a grade school bombing, pedo-perv., forever foreign oil war necon politician. NOTE: The Fat Lady won't be singing. She died in one of Trump's civilian infrastructure bombings.

Caine is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff. He has no command authority over the military. His is an advisory role only. Advisor to the president, SecDef, and security councils. U.S. Presidents have sole authority to order a nuclear strike with no legal requirement to consult advisors or congress. The job of the Secretary of Defense is to verify the president's order and pass it on to the military for execution but the SecDef doesn't have power to veto the order. The SecDef can refuse to pass the order on to the military for execution. Good luck with Kegsbreath in charge. The Vice President and cabinet can invoke the 25th Amendment. While I distain Vance, he's been groomed to succeed Trump by big $$$. He likely would try the 25th.

Multiple oil spills in the Persian Gulf become visible from space following strikes on Iranian and regional oil facilities and vessels, with experts warning of a growing environmental risk, CNN reported on Tuesday. Satellite imagery reviewed by CNN shows extensive oil pollution, including a spill spanning more than five miles near Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Another image shows oil contamination near Lavan Island following what Iranian state media described as a strike on an oil facility close to the island’s coast earlier this month.

And Congress had balls back then. Niixon passed a giid number of progressive laws. Nixon gave this commencement speech at the University of Central Florida,11 months before he resigned from office. If you do watch this, I skipped the small talk. Cued to start at at about 6 minutes in, praising a progressive senator. youtu.be/di-A63D2fKw?si… By 11min he's settling into his narrative. By 14min, he's on a roll. But what he says here at 17min... youtu.be/di-A63D2fKw?si… Listening to him say these things a decade after Trump began the dissolution of Nixon's party is surreal.

@Spookybacon @glenn_tunes Interesting. Nixon was rehabilitated to some degree in the years after Watergate. Of course Nixon, for all his flaws, was never accused of rape or found by a judge in a subsequent civil trial to have committed rape.

The rare school that graduates a US President owns serious bragging rights. I did a little digging around. Nixon, Carter, GHW Bush, Clinton, GW Bush, Barack HUSSAIN Obama (Have you heard of him?), and Joe Biden have all given commencement addresses and visiting lectures at their alma maters. Schools have been founded in their names. Education programs, endowments, grants, and scholarships established under the honored name of a US President. But never Trump. There are plenty of Wharton videos and articles exploring the problems with Trump policies. There are a lot of videos with Wharton grads who became leaders in departments and agencies of past presidential admins. But not a single interview or business experience video with Trump. Trump's the only president in at least the past 75years to have never been asked to speak at his dear old alma mater. Its almost as if he's an absolute embarrassment to the school. Sad.

While I would not be surprised to find that this was true, we cannot verify that Trump was at the bottom of his class. What we do know is that he was never on the Dean's list or any honors list. That means he was not a top tier student and that he lied (surprise surprise) when he claimed he was "first in his class".
