Hot take, when teaching experimental methods to grad students include the costs of the assay.

Think NIH freezes and cuts dont effect anything besides budgets? Students in classes can’t find labs to do dissertations in because now PIs dont have money to fund education and training. Schools arent taking students next fall. We risk losing a generation of scientists.

I worked in the LRN (funded by CDC grants) We were the ones who were prepared to do testing. Every state has one LRN lab. These are the people trained to respond to this kind of thing. Hopefully they still have jobs.

Hopefully the NIH funding freeze doesn’t affect their work.

This is why freezing funds has been devastating. Grants enable labs to operate for years. Years of work is done prior to show why a grant should be awarded. If a lab loses a grant that has real world impact, technicians laid off, no students trained, and possibly losing your lab.
