The grocery store problem is actually a perfect argument for walkable cities, not against them.
When you rely on driving, the store becomes a logistical burden. You’re forced to shop in bulk, hunt for parking for 20 minutes, buy extra refrigeration, and meticulously plan weeks of meals to minimize the number of times you have to endure that trip.
When you live in a walkable neighborhood, that friction disappears. I used to live walking distance from a market, and we stopped planning meals entirely. It became an experience: we’d wake up, decide what we were in the mood for, and walk over to pick up fresh ingredients for dinner that night.
A 10 minute stroll to get fresh ingredients is just better living.

Question to the ‘walkable city’ advocates who hate cars: If you go to the grocery store and have eight bags (or even four bags) of groceries, how do you get them home? You push around a little cart or something? Sounds bad.

I’m not entirely keen on this idea that kids need their own rooms.
When they become adults they’ll have roommates either in the college dorm, or when they move out.
When they get married they’ll share a room.
My mom shared a room with her sibling.

Horrific update to breaking news I reported on Thursday. The young man shot in the parking garage in downtown Indianapolis near the convention center has died. The Marion County coroner confirms 23-year-old Brett Scrogham died from his injuries. Multiple sources have told me and I have confirmed through IU’s online records that Scrogham recently graduated from IU’s Kelley School of Business and was named one of the top in his class. Multiple sources also tell me that Brett was parking in the garage downtown near the convention center to attend the Indians game with his family when he was shot. We have reached out to IMPD to see if an arrest has been made in this case and we are still waiting to hear back. More to come.
