Here to help raise awareness of the different challenges victims of domestic abuse face in rural areas. https://t.co/xq1onCzd8M

I hope you take a minute to read this long excerpt from my just released book "Stop Blaming Mothers and Ignoring Fathers: How to transform the way we keep children safe from domestic violence" "My early discussions with social workers revealed how much they knew about mothers’ trauma histories but how little they knew of the specifics of actual behaviors of the perpetrator. They could describe how many abusive relationships the mother had been in but not how many past partners the perpetrator had abused. They could recite, from memory, the perceived faults of the mother and the services she was offered. But they could not describe the perpetrator’s pattern of behavior, how that pattern impacted the survivor’s parenting, or how the pattern related to the problems the children were experiencing. Many couldn’t even describe factors indicative of high levels of danger or the dynamics of control and entrapment. They knew little or nothing about whether a particular perpetrator was a danger to professionals or others beyond the immediate family. Digging even deeper, it also became clear that most workers couldn’t answer questions about the role of culture, power, and privilege or how domestic violence intersected with issues such as substance abuse and mental health. The practices associated with blaming mothers and ignoring fathers were, and still are, hiding in plain sight." amazon.com/Stop-Blaming-M…
