In Matt Maiocco’s Final 2026 NFL Mock Draft he has the #49ers sticking at 27 and selecting: EDGE Malachi Lawrence, UCF “Defensive line coach Kris Kocurek values quickness at the snap of the ball. And that is exactly what Lawrence brings to the table. Lawrence is a true edge with tremendous upside to play opposite of Nick Bosa in passing situations.”

I’m not the first one to notice this, but if Aiyuk wants to play football and get some kind of acceptable contract once SF kicks him to the curb, don’t you think he’d be working out on his own, showing people he was in shape and is past his injuries? Either the dude is deep cave exploring in Afghanistan, isn’t in football shape and is afraid people will see that, or he has legitimately run his mental forklift off the edge of the loading dock. It’s just weird as hell.

@urtazablue They need to draft an Edge who actually profiles as an Edge Rusher-not one of these big body tweeters that they kick inside-Bosa was a no brainer pick-besides him they have drafted zero good rushers going back to Thomas-they need to changer their entire scouting methodology

Some thoughts post-predraft presser with John Lynch. The 49ers seem happy with the current situation at OT. Trent Williams is locked down, and it sounds like he has years to go until he retires. The 49ers are happy they have a swing tackle in Vederian Lowe, who has starting experience. I just have a really hard time seeing the 49ers investing in an LT high in this draft. That doesn't mean they won't invest in the guard spot, which I expect them to do.

@Coach_Yac @nwagoner They are still not taking a tackle at 27-they have limited picks and need an impact player for this year-I respect Nick’s reporting but he has fallen sway to the groupthink of the “league sources” and mock drafters who are insisting the Niners do what they want them to do

Despite the 49ers reworking Trent Williams deal, it doesn’t change their interest in possibly drafting an OT at pick 27, per @nwagoner “The questions SF must answer are whether spending No. 27 on an OT who might not start for a year or two is better than taking, say, an edge or a WR who also might not start but can contribute in some way right away. Or, if they want to find someone who could start on day 1, whether they'd be willing to break from their positional preferences and draft a safety or a guard. Ideally, any OL pick they make early could start at LG in 2026 with the ability to move outside later. Nice little birthday present from the 49ers. Appreciate it. But can we please bring in a guy to groom to replace him soon? At minimum give the team leverage so he doesn’t do this again next year or year after(hopefully he’s playing well enough to want to do that tho)

@Coach_Yac This is just a word salad-the Niners could go a bunch of different ways! The best move is trade down and take Lawrence and have another 2nd for BPA

Albert Breer’s annual NFL Draft column is out and here’s his thoughts on the 49ers: “What you need to know: Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams are both coming back from torn ACLs, and the 49ers are relying on young guys around Osa Odighizuwa. And even with new coordinator Raheem Morris coming aboard, the Niners defense is the Niners defense, and it always has relied on a dominant defensive front. So, finding another piece with the limited draft capital the team has, the dearth of picks could lead to some movement, is in play. Also, at some point the Niners are going to have to find and groom Trent Williams’s successor. Someone like Arizona State’s Max Iheanachor would be appealing along those lines as an athletic freak who could begin as a right tackle (his college position) with the hope he could eventually move over to take Williams’ spot. And with fewer picks overall than normal, trading down is something that the Niners will certainly seriously consider.”
